#9040, "Peck Rd. or Santa Fe"

I spend a lot of time at the Arcadia Par 3 so I figured since I'm so close why not give Peck a try. I've never really learned to fish for bass, but I'm extremely interested in learning. I've been walking over there a few times lately and was wondering what spots to hit there and what type of lure to use? Also, I live about 10 min. from Santa Fe so was wondering what it was like for bass there, I've fished for trout there any info would be great. Thanks

Greeper,
As Jerry G and others will tell you, Peck Rd. is a tough place to fish. I've fished it over a dozen times in the past year and have hooked up with only one LMB who snapped my line a few feet from shore. Trout fishing is good right after the stock but quickly dies as the birds make quick meals of them. A good spot to try for bass is just to the left of the parking lot and down the shore line with the trees on it. Be careful what you throw though because anything that runs deep or on the bottom is likely to be lost on all the crap submerged in the heavily polluted water. Still, it's a decent little, local lake and I enjoy just being out there.

Hope this helps
RF

thanks for the info, as for watching what I toss, you couldn't be more right, I got snagged on every cast with a Rat L trp and lost a brand new one so I gave up. I guess I'll give that place a try every once in awhile for practice. Do you know of any spots on the golf course side of the lake?

There's a spot where a fallen telephone pole is leaning up against another pole behind the golf course. In front of the fallen pole there will be two small islands and you can see some high spots outside the islands. That area produce fish. Actually the shore line from those islands down to the channel that divids the lake has produced a few fish for me. My favorite spot is on opposite side of the lake in the cove with the submerged trees. There's also a there's a submerged picnic table in that area. If enter through the golf course and continue down the trail when you reach the lake you'll find a small stretch of shorline that begins at at the bottom of the trail and ends at the channel. I wouldn't expect much from those spots though. If you really want to challenge your skills and you can handle a lot of frustration then have at it. If you would preffer to drive an extra 10 minutes for some better fishing go to Santa Fe or if you would preffer to drive an extra 15 minutes for some even better fishing give Pudd a try.

JerryG thanks, Santa Fe is on the way home, what spots should I try there? I was told for trout drive all the way to the end how bout for them Bass? RE: Peck I'll give your spots a try, but since I'm still learnin to fish for Bass, I may not have too much luck. One last question (sorry) at PUdd, do you have to pay to get in, I haven't been there in 20 years.

Unfortunately Santa Fe does charge for parking. They don't charge on weekdays in winter but they have already moved to their spring schedule and it will cost you $6 to get in to either Santa Fe or Pudd. You can park at the dam control office and walk over the dam to avoid the charge. It's about a 10 minute walk to the lake from there but it's a strenious walk up and over the dam.

If you go fisn Santa Fe I recommend you either start at the dam or the last parking lot at the end of the lake and work your way down the back side of the lake. That would be the side with the rocky natural looking shoreline. If you choose to fish the other side of the lake try in the vicinity of the launch ramp. From there work your way down to the boat rental docks and continue to work your way towards the swim beach until you reach the beach. You have a decent chance at getting bit from the ramp to the swim beach. Make casts parallel to the shore working the bottom in the area very slowly. Focus your efforts on the area where the concrete slab meets the bottom of the lake. Bass will sometimes sit at the foot of the slab but the rocky shoreline is a better bet if you don't mind the walk. I wouldn't expect much in the way of size out of this lake but that's not to say it's not possible.

greeper,

Santa Fe is best fished from a float tube. That's the only way you can reach the three islands in the
reservoir. The whole north shore (the one jerryg mentions) is the best area for bass. Like jerryg says....
it's not much for size, but on some days the numbers can be good. It's actually a good crank bait
reservoir, IMHO. The place is very shallow - the deepest part is only 10 feet. Good luck.
