Hi All,

I live in the San Fernando Valley, and am looking for some good clean warm freshwater spots to tube and camp within 3 hours from my house.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am new to tubing and freshwater fishing, I mostly fish salt, so any tips you might have would be great.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Adam

Hey baitfish,

There are a couple of areas to fish in your area. Lower Lake Castaic allows float tubing and has some awesome fishing when the bass are biting. Lake Piru can be good in the early spring and fall. Lake Pyramid also allows float tubing and offers both large and small mouth. And if you are willing to make a drive up the coast, Lake Lopez and Santa Margarita can be awesome and well worth the drive. As for South of your area I don't know of to many areas accept, Lower Otay, Lake Perris, and Lake Silverwood.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips! I did give Piru a try and scored some small bass and bluegill, and farmed a small trout. But I will give some of those places a try.

Thanks again for the info, I'll give that link a try too.

How's it going Adam. I live in Downey, which is near the 5 and the 605 freeways. I am very familiar with all of the salt water spots south of Palos Verdes and north of Huntington Beach. If you ever want to hook up to try some salt water floattubing, just send me an e-mail and we can work something out. That is, as long as my wife lets me get out of the house for a while.

Talk to you later,
Terry G.

Hey Terry, I thought you died or something? How about you and Adam join us SoCal Calfishing folks for a tube in SD Bay on Sat. Go to the Salt board for info, or email me. Adam, I live in Vista, we have many awesome lakes down. I've only hit Sutherland once (I tube saltwater mostly), but will be hitting the lakes very soon. Next weekend I'll probably try either Sutherland or Hodges. Probably a litle farther than 3hours, but if you want to come down, email me.

What's up Ed. I'm still here, just busy as a one legged man in a A$$ kickin' contest. Haven't had a lot of time for planned fishing activities lately. The same old excuse... Working to many hours, and then spending the cash with my family when I'm not working. When I do get a chance to fish, it's usually a spontanious trip to one of the local rock quarrys or golf courses. I have been watching your threads on SD bay area. I am going to take you up on that offer to fish down there. To sell the idea to my wife, it will have to include a trip to the in-laws house in Temecula. I'll drop you an e-mail the next time I know I'm going down there and maybe we can hook up for an early morning trip. Have you hooked up with Steve Buckley? I think he lives in Vista too.

Later, Terry G.

Yeah we definitely have to fish when you get down here. And yes I see Steve all the time. He's been posting on the salt and main board here also. He's pouring (and letting me pour too) a lot of great stuff. He lives out in Fallbrook now. Rodney is also out there, but he's real busy too. Let me know when your down this way.
