A while back there was a post about Bishop's Peak pond. Someone asked where this pond is, but nobody responded. I too would like to know.
Anyone willing to divulge where Bishop's Peak pond or any other local ponds at which you are allowed to fish for bass?
Thanks,
Pete

Well ok, Bishops peak pond is a very small little pond, maybe 100 yards across and 100 feet wide. It's right up under Bishops peak, you either have to know someone who has a house bordering the open space up against the peak, or be willing to park on the street and walk through the side of someones house to get up there. I honestly don't know what street you would park on or the exact direction, only been there once.
The Cal Poly ponds are out in the Ag school, there are 4 or 5 of them. One is right under the water treatment plant, one is to the West of there in a Eucalyptus grove and the other ones are up by the horse unit. People don't seem to mind if you fish there but the fising is nothing exciting. You can usually get a couple small bass with a 2 pounder a pretty good one.
That's about it!

Thanks. May not be too exciting, but hopefully the poly ponds would be OK for a quick fishing fix, when I don't have the time to go to Margarita or Lopez and do all the boat related things.

I have fished at the cal poly ponds before, nothing in them as far as I am concerned! It is still fun though.

Everybody wants to know where the secret spots are, but relaying this info just isn't all that sporting. I like to hike/bike/kayak to out of the way fishing holes that I have found through pouring over maps, hoping over fences and busting through brush. Case in point- I know of a canyon in San Diego County with a two acre pond loaded with stunted bass. There is no other evidence of visitations to this pond- no beer cans, old fishing lines, etc. After 5 miles of mountain biking down abondoned roads, throwing my bike over several lfences,I caught over 100 bass that first day(albeit small ones). You could see them hanging out over the weedbeds, lining up to take the hook. I threw plastics- any color would do. I decided to do a bit of an experiment. I kept going back to this lake. The next time I caught 50 the next 30 next 17, and the numbers held at about that rate. Now, I was the only lucky one to have visited that pond for some time, but it would not have been as sweet had I had not been the first one there. So-- my advice is this. There still is some magic out there- be crafy and search for it- and keep it to yourself so that others can search for it also.
Andy

Andy,
I like your comments on finding ponds. There is a lot of excitement in "discovering" your own place to fish. About a year ago I was up hiking on Bishop's Peak (actually I was trying to hunt quail with a sling shot, not luck though) and I came across the two ponds; boy was I surprised and excited. I didn't have my fishing tackle up here at school so I just forgot about them. I have my fishing tackle now and will go up there sometime. I have fished in the ponds by the poly vinyard, I didn't catch anything; but it was fun and I have heard from other people there is Bass and Blugill in there.
Another story about a pond in San Diego, there is a cemetary by my house where I thought there would be fish and I gave it a try and I must have been the first because I caught soooo many fish and they would bite anything, jigs, worms, lures made of flowers and grass!

Just happen to find this report and I saw some one asking about trout fishing I,m located in So.Cal I've been off work due to an injury and have been doing my walking rehab at a local lake what once was called Puddingstone but now they call it Frank G. Bonelli Park what a way to rehab huh goin'fishing every day well here's the report since Monday Jan. 1st to today Feb 4 it was solid limits of rainbows.....they really stocked some nice trout for a tube derby they had the Sat before..The bows were hitting mostly power bait in Rainbow,Capt America, Lime Green with glitter not too many on the lures but when they hit they were trowing Panther Martins, black with yellow dots Super Dupers silver and gold they stock this lake once every other week so the fishing is hot right after a stock for about a week so the rest of the time it's kinda slow but it beats working well I hope this info is useful to you fella's good luck and tight lines to you...Bent Rod 1
