I was thinking of getting a fish finder and i came upon this one
NorCross HawkEye Portable Freedom Portable Fish Finder
I dont have a boat and would like to know if this is a good idea and if these fish finders are very effective. By the way, i can get it for much cheaper than the given price.

I would consider bottomline Fishin Buddy's. They work fabulously and the higher end models aren't terribly expensive. -Nate

I seen a guy at laguna with one like that on his float tube.Looked pretty slick,if its the one I seen the best thing is it runs on AA batts instaed of putting the extra weihgt in your tube with big regular 12v.I havent tried one myself but it seemed to be the ticket for a tube.I have rigged up my regular humminbird before on my tube and the battery was heavey and took up too much precious space.
But if your just pluggin along the shore I would rather keep it simple and as light as possible.Backpack and pole,just dont forget the camera and scale,and extra batterys for the camera.Just in case.Tight lines,

The NorCross is a good unit, but personally prefer the Hummingbird smart cast unit. You can get the base station model or go for the small but effective wrist watch display also. The have a wireless transducer you cast out to your target area and it sends a signal back to the dispaly. Has a range of 100 feet, reads to 150' depth and you can adjust depth, sensitivity, and even has fish alarm and fish ID. The sound and look cheesy, but after using one I was thoroughly pleased with it's performance. They run about 180 for the large base station unit to about 120 for the watch style receiver.
