Okay, here goes! First off everybody needs to get a map and look at it hard. You will find that the Santa Ynez river used to flow and now it's got a dam on it. If you'd been on the lake in the major drought we had you could have seen the lake unplugged like I did. It really helped. The redear like all the fish in the lake are transients. But this in my opinion is the time to really whallop-em good. Don't worry about fishing on any spots I give up as I am not to worried about it I only fish. Places to go for redear at this time 1.Any of the flats Jackrabbit,Storke,Cedar...Just so long as you are out where they transition to the deeper water 25+ feet or so. Right now I'm seeing alot of folks just off of the marina side of jackrabbit. 2. I like the cistern...This area is easy to spot there is a bouy line just across from Santa Cruz Bay that goes right over the top of it. Just pull away from that bouy line and get in 35+ feet and cast around until you locate them. 3. between arrowhead and the narrows Basically in the middle of that area the river makes it's turn it's all about the same depth but just keep motoring towards the bank on the Santa Barbara side until you either see brush and meter marks or a 5 foot change in depth. As far as leadcore trolling for trout..The water temp is cooler so the trout are up. What will spell disaster is being to deep. A Cardinale RULE...A fish will allways come up to eat your bait but never down. So it is allways best to be above them when you start your search than to deep. Let the fish tell you from there. In the summer months I do better by the dam or trolling into the big coves until my bait reaches the mouth of the bay and then I turn around and troll out.Starting about now a bait slick of shad is to be found behind Arrowhead about a mile long. If it's raining you can kill them on small chrome bass lures like a wiggle wart and such. And as far as power bait guys My 3rd redear spot and behind arrowhead on the far bank about 100 feet off the bank is tops! Oh yeah! Water clarity is not an issue with redear guys food is. Gotta go as lunch was over 5 minutes ago KELLY Big Cachuma is across from the marina first cove to your left the second one is aptly named little Cachuma ...You'll figure it out BYE!
