#3983, "Fish reports for Legg Lake and Pecks Pitt!"

I've been making it out of the office at a reasonable time these days which means I've been hitting up the local lakes for some last minute bass fishing. I fished the last hour of light at Legg Lake last week Monday through Friday and caught anywhere from 2 to 5 bass per outing with nothing over 2lbs but a steady pick from the Middle Lake and the big lake. With split/drop shot plastics accounting for a few and split shot night crawler on 4lb Floral counting for the most of the fish and all the fish of any size. It's been a steady pick there. I did have a larger fish fall off the one and only time I tried the Trout Lake. I sight fished it and I would guess that it was about a 4lb female.

Today I decided to try the old Rock Quarry so I headed over to Peck Pit. I hadn't fished the place in twenty years until just recently when I went to check it out and couldn't believe how fishy it looked.

I Entered throught the Golf Cours and was got bit almost immediately in the Windy Lake. If you ever fished this place it's like Twin lakes one lake is ussually always windy while the half is generally calm and the lake is split by a narrow channel of the lake. The water was way down from a coupple weeks ago. This revealed much more fallen trees and more of the cover this lake has to offer it's residents. Even thought the water had gone down it's still a deep lake. What do you expect it's a quarry. Anyways I worked it for an hour or so and my only bite was the came when I first got there. The resulted in a solid 6lb fish which was released safely. It appeared to be a male. It had length but not very fat.

I didn't see any fish bedding althought the water was very clear. I don't think they have spawned yet in this lake because I have been watching it for past three weeks and I have whitnessed very few bed fish. Unless they spawned early. Ny guess is that it's just a deep lake and it's been unussually cold so the spawn will be late. Any imput for someone who knows this lake would be appreciated.

After work Bass fishing has been fun but when the weekend comes it's back to business with the saltwater fishing. Now if we could just get some warm water and get the season underway. Good luck guys. Please release your fish and post results.

Good Luck,

JerryG
