#4035, "May 9, Cachuma Lake"

Met Brian #2 at Mr. Shin's for a last minute trip to Cachuma at around noon thirty today. Zack has basically all my tackle, so I was left with my trout plug rod, my money slammer and a white plug that I made. So, I gathered em up and off we went. The plan was for me to throw plugs until 3 or 4 when Zack came up to meet us, and then he'd bring the rest of my tackle when he came up. So, we went over to Jackrabbit Flats and I threw the white plug and Brian threw a Storm swimbait. No love there, so we went to Santa Cruz. Much love here. My slammer's hooks got stuck together, so as I was trying to pop it and free it up it got hammered. Needless to say, I didn't get very good hook penetration with both hooks stuck to eachother, so that one got away. Shortly afterward I got blasted again on the slammer and stuck this one. It was probably 2 and change. After that fish I had quite a few followers and then we got back to the log boom where there's a sunken tree. I threw the slammer between the log boom and the tree and watched a 1.5lber or so, come up to the plug and nip the side of it and then swim away. Scared the hell out of me cause I thought it was just gonna come up and look at the plug or follow it. That one realized it was wood and went back into hiding. Brian #2 would later catch it on a worm. We fished around some more, over behind the island. I continued with the plug despite Brian's railing of the fry guarding 1-2lbers on a spinnerbait. We also checked out Cachuma Bay briefly where I had another one hit the plug and not get hooked. He had like 5 fish by the time we picked up Zack at 5. When we got Zack we went over to the coves by the entrance to the narrows (the mianus region) but not much was happening there. Some guy also came in on our spot and cut us off, so we eventually went back to Santa Cruz. I threw the plug, Zack threw a buzzbait and Brian threw a japanese topwater. Brian switched up to a worm and stuck another one just before we left. I ended up having like 5 followers on the slammer and 4 biters. Pretty good day. Most of the fish were males guarding fry which made it kind of frustrating to get some decent fish, but they sure did smack that plug good. The ones that wanted to attack it didn't mess around, they just straight up nailed it pretty much. Here's some jpegs-
