I'll never buy another non-LED light again. Way better battery life, brighter, and now days easy to find and cheap.

As far as night vision goes, get red filters for your lamps. Red won't kill your night vision. You can go to a camera shop that sells filters for lighting gear. Get a gel in red (#83 I think). I think a 20 x 24" gel costs about $6. Then just cut out hunks and tape it over your lights.
