#6839, "San Pablo tubing"
|
So I keep hearing about all of these huge fish coming out of San Pablo, and I've decided I'm going to give it a whirl one day in the next few weeks, assuming they allow float tubes. Do any of you fish this water from a kickboat or tube? Also, how does one get there from Sonoma? I can't seem to find suitable directions from mapquest. Where are the places to go on this lake? What is it's makeup? Does it have steep and deep banks? Lots of grass? Rock piles? What, What, What?!?!?! I know there are good fish in there, and it's time for me to find one.

You will need to call "That Dam Company"for more info. They are closed part of the year.Float tube fishing is very limited, with lots of dumb rules, and you need to buy a daily pass. You're better off renting one of their boats, then you can fish everywhere. The lake has it all..grass,rock,trees,ect.A sixteen pounder was caught on "power bait" a couple years ago..was a new line class record(6 pound test). Good Luck....Jay Bryant

I come up from San Jose & catch San Pablo Dam Rd. from Hwy 24 (just south of the tunnel, if I recall correctly, near Orinda?). Just follow it down (north!) & look for the signs.
As for tubing, they always restricted me to the Preserve area, although I've 'pushed it' a bit & gone outside the bouys. I doubt they ever noticed. You can still catch some nice fish in that area, though, although I've had some tough days out there, too, the few times I've checked it out.
Be sure & check out Rob's post on the HAWGS that he & this guy 'Erik' caught out there this weekend -- INCREDIBLE!! The BIG FISH bite is definitely **ON**!!! Guess they've been chomping at the BIT to bite a bait over the past few months! Git'em now before they start gettin' hook-shy!
