Well it’s all good.
I’ve found a friend who would like to fish the salt on Saturday.
Either going to fish on the New Huck Fin out of Emeryville
and try or luck at potluck fishing for Halibuts and Stripers.

Or if dude has a tow hitch on his truck
I want to take my motor boat out of Berkeley.
And drift for Halibuts and plug for Stripers.
Might even try picking up some live smelt for bait at the marina.

Sunday is as planed on having a BBQ :9
Hopefully with some fresh salty water fish “Yum”

Joey,

Sorry, I missed your call yesterday. I was at 'the pond' again. Didn't catch quite as many as last week but still did real well. The fish were bigger but still nothing over 4 pounds. I will take you there one of these days (blind-folded and in the trunk). You'll love it. Jeremy broke his Loomis setting the hook on one in the tulles. That's the third Loomis I've seen break this year. Hmmmmm...... He did have at least a thirty fish day, though.

I'm headed for Tahoe today to visit my parents. Back on Friday to go to W-WOOORRK! OoooooNooooo!

Ya know what's funny about those G-Loomis rods?
They use the best graphite blanks, reel seats & guides but, they don't even bother to spline them. Check it out the next time you're in a store. Splining a rod is "rod building 101" I couldn't believe it when I discovered it. No wonder they break so often.

Clint,
"Splining" a rod involves finding the strong and weak sides of the blank, length wise along the shaft. All you have to do is hold the rod at a 45 degree angle to the ground while gently holding the tip and applying upward pressure to the middle of the rod. You'll see how the rod blank has a natural tendency to rotate to one side or the other, finally settling on one dominant side. If the rod is built correctly, it will rotate to a position putting the guides either straight up(baitcasting) or straight down(spinning). If the rod hasn't been splined properly, the guides will point out to the sides.
When a rod isn't built "on the spline" it causes the blank to twist as more pressure is put on it. (like during a hard hookset while flippin') The twisting can be severe enough to cause small fractures in the graphite or fiberglass eventually breaking the rod.

I can't see spending $300 on a rod where it hasn't been done properly. It's just retarded. Or it's just a way to sell more rods...hmmmm.

Thanks for the explanation Chris! And BTW, I really like the CastAway flipping rods that John recommended to me. I have yet to break a rod on a hook set but I've also started setting up a lot harder than I used to. Just ask Swampy; the last two smaller fish at the delta were airborne!
