#3895, "Which Of These Rods for Big Baits"

Wow, I think I'm going to have try big bass fishing. I have a Loomis HSR932 (7'9") and an SWR 108-20 (9ft)for calico fishing. Any pros and cons on either of these rods for big trout lures?

I've got a 932 I bought for Calico fishin' but now use for slingin' big swimbaits. It's fine for the casting part but it needs a softer tip for the fight if the bait has trebles. Get something that has a very soft upper 1/3 or 1/4 then the rest should be like a pool cue, if ya know what I mean. I'm sure others could give you better model specific info but generally that's the concept.

Chris

Thanks, Chris. I'm not a big bass fisher, so it sounds like the 932 will do in a pinch. Going to try a couple of private farm ponds in the west Fresno County area that were planted with bass and bluegill by a friend half a dozen years ago. Might also try the swr 108-20 in the O'Neil Forebay in Los Banos for stripers. The extra length will be helpful I guess, since I'd be shore bound. Wish I got up there more than twice a year.
