Nothing to get jazzed about but it was cool to get back on the beach after a three week absence.

Saint Nick brought me a Shimano Symetre 2000FA that I loaded with 4# p-line and rigged to my Fenstick 9'0" Salmon/Steelhead Rod. What a great little combo for perch jerkin.

Started casting around slack water which was about noon today. Started off real slow but managed around 10 Bardies and 1 Corbina (13") The Perch were small (6-8") with one at 10". Fished about 3 hours. Water was real clear although I found a few rips that I pursued with vigor for nada. Not much salad.

Used the usual Kalin grub colors 1.5".

Might make it out sunday. If so... will post results.

Tight Lines Everyone!

Fongster,

Regarding the Symetre, like Bogart said in Casa Blanca, " I think this is going to be the beginning of a beautiful relationship!" :D

By the way, unless otherwise noted, all fish are always released.

If you want a fish to fear release him now to grow next year! :)

Tony, go south of the pier about a 1/2 mile. You'll come up on some free parking. Aztec and I fish about a mile south of the pier, free too.

Tony,

Regarding the O'side Pier question you have come to the right place. That structure basically raized me back in the 60's.

Which side of the pier to fish on depends on what species you are targeting. If you are planning on fishing out toward the end ...it really doesn't matter. However, if you are after Corbina, Surf Perch, and Croaker ect you will be fishing in the surf zone and thats a different ballgame.

Its all about what the current is doing that particular day. If its strong and out of the north then you will find it easier to fish the south side. South current ... the opposite. Don't be afraid to fish the pilings as they hold some really nice fish. Gotta be on your toes though otherwise you will loose alot of terminal tackle.

Best baits this time of year would be mussel, black crabs, bloodworms(expensive) sand crabs are super if you can find any.

Biggest problem I used to havbe was dealing with all the Anglers that wanted to take over your spot once you started slaying them. :(

Good luck and be sure to post your results!!

One thing that I wanted to mention before was that I noticed on the last outing the sand is rapidly declining from the beaches here in Oceanside. Nothing new.

It always laps back on in the late spring about the time when the Corbs return in force. But take caution if Perchin from the shore because there are mucho pockets that you can fall into while wading to cast.

At low tide over the weekend I discovered so many pockets that huge lunkers could hang out in I nearly passed out! Can't wait for New Year's Day! Will drink little NYE but fish like hell NYD!!

Tight Lines!!

Ed,

My brother and I are planning on being at the north end of Carlsbad State Beach (Ponto) weather permitting, around 10:00a.m. I noticed in the tide book that there will be alot of water movement NYD. 7.1 high at 6:55a.m. and 1.4 minus at 2:00p.m.

Hope to start out the New Year with some sweet slabs!!

Hope to see You and Dad in the Morn!
