#5424, "Need a reel now..."

Hey, wanna thanks you guys that responded to my post before about needing a cheapie combo. Well, I scored on a good pole at a a closing out k-mart. Was checkin out the fishin section, when a Pen Big Water caught my eye. Thinkin to myself that I couldn't afford 90 bucks at the moment, the messed up bar code pushed me to buy it even more. (it was calling my name) Hey, no tag, no price scan right? My bf then bought a cheapie shakespeare pole for $17.99. I just loved the girl at the counter. Looked at the poles, said "Well, they're the same size" So she double scanned the Shakespeare. I couldn't help but laugh on the way out. Should I be feeling guilty? Hey, there were 15 people behind me and I saved 70 bucks. *shrug Anyway, I now need a good reel to match it. By the way, it's a heavy action 15-50 lb. Hey, maybe I'll go to that k-mart aagin... maybe that girl will be there again.

I seem to be gettin a lot of responses and good references to the jigmaster. That's what I was actually thinkin about. Do you know the price it runs for? I really haven't been looking for a reel, so I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure if I look, I'll find it. I'll try ebay too, thanks.

And about the shark fishin, snapped my last heavy pole, so I haven't fished for sharks for about a month, but once I get a new reel, I sure hope I break it in with at least a 4-5 footer.

Yup, I think 15 max line's a little too light for the pole I have. It's actually 15-50 lb. But I would probably put either 25 or 30 on it. I guess I'll end up goin to Big Fish. Juan promised me a good deal on a combo, but I guess I gotta tell him I found me a rod already. He was actually supposed to make me a custom in a couple months but I guess that would have to wait. :P

hey sharkgirl!! sounds like you got a good deal at lame mart. can't beat that. anyway, i would recommend a jigmaster reel also. but i would go with the 501 not the 500. i own both, and they are both awesome reels. just that the 501 casts better and farther because it has a narrower spool. the 501 is narrower than the 500, but it is the same reel. i have used this reel for trolling large strippers, baiting albacore, casting iron to barracuda, and baiting yellowtails. i have it mounted on an uglystick tiger rod. this set-up has done well for everything i have used it for. i would recommend this set-up to anyone, not just someone who doesn't have a lot of money to spend on tackle. the best part of having a penn reel is that you can upgrade it by putting aftermarket parts on it. accurate makes a kit for most penn reels that makes the reel go from a solid 7 to a 10.

I seen you at DP so I know you have to be decently close to me. But anyway, if you really need a pole, check out the k-mart on harbor and edinger in fountain valley. Not a great selection, but some are decent. I got one out the the only two Penns there. Some decent Shimanos. But as for the heavy poles you need, there's some that may do. Selection's good on freshwater, but their saltwater selection sucks. They're down to I think 20% off right now. They go down 10% every week until everything's sold cause they're closing. In a couple weeks, I'm goin over there and takin all their fishin gear :) and stockin up.

We've had a couple of reels from K-Mart for free by javing the cashier miss the fact that there's a separate ticket for pole and reel!
