#9483, "What kind of bait for Coyote lake"

Hello,

I went to Coyote lake this Sunday. Fished there from the shore with Salmon eggs...the one they sell in every store...nothing...not even a bite. I was fishing from the west shore.
Would any one advise me any bait for trout?

Thank you,

difull

Difull:

Go toss out any lure by the dam. I guarantee you'll do some damage. Me and anyone else fishing that day was killing em on lures. Although I kayaked coyote, the guys shore casting were doing just as well.

I like the silver kastmaster 1/8 oz. But I was catching em on T.Bouyant and spinners as well. They'll stock this week so when the rain lets up, you should get into em.

Thanks.

If I want to fish with baits and a regular line (not lure) what kind would you recommand at Coyote. It doesn't look like the salmon eggs worked at all. I probably used the wrong one huh?

If you're intent on bait (I can hear the snoring now), try Powerbait on a #14 treble hook. Tie it to a 4lb leader of about 3 to 4Ft in length. Tie the other end of the leader to a barrel swivel. Put a 1/4 oz SLIDING egg sinker on your main line and tie the main line to the other side of the barrel swivel. Cast out and wait up to 30 min. If you don't get bit cast somewhere else. If you still don't get bit walk 2 long casts down the bank and try again.
Tight lines,
Wade

What is powerbait?
Would you advise to fish with 3 hooks at the same time with three different bait? same one?

One treble (3-pronged single hook) is enough. Multiple hooks make for multiple tangles and multiple weak links. Furthermore, I'm not sure 3 seperate hooks at 1 time is legal. In the past only 2 were allowed.
Tight lines,
Wade

Powerbait is the doughy colorfull stuff in the little jars. When I first got into fishing that is all I used. But once you start experimenting with lures and flies you probably won't go back. I've never been up to Coyote or the area, but if there are stocked trout in there they will bite it. Wild trout just don't like it. It's worked for me down here in SoCal and the Sierra's for the stockers. Get the stuff made by Berkley, I haven't heard anything good about the Crave stuff.
Good Luck
