can anyone recommend a decent place to go flyfishing that i may be able to catch something and still practice my casting. i just got a flyfishing rod and reel. i don't have a float tube or waders yet but would like to try my luck from shore. any thoughts, comments, recommendations..... just started reading this board.... you guys seem pretty cool and dedicated.

i live in Cerritos, and would be willing to drive some distance in the so cal area.

thanks

;)

I have been wanting to learn to flyfish. Did you take any classes? Everyone I spoke to about flyfishing said to join a local club. They have classes and trips, etc. Check out, http://www.swcfff.org/ to see if there are any local clubs in your area if you're interested.

Hope it helps. Good luck!

Joe

Lake Fulmor up by Idylwild is a great spot to try, but you can only roll cast there. Other Lakes in the San Bernardino mountain waters are Jenks, Gregory, Big Bear, and Green Valley Lake. I know quite a few guys who go to these lakes and fly fish.

I have directions to all lakes on my site!

If you happen to see any stockers near the surface, try throwing a dark Elk Hair Caddis. It gives a fair approximation of a feed pellet for the Stockers and will be taken as the real thing by Natives and sunfish.

I recommend trying Los Alimitos Bay or Belmont Shore early morning. It's only 15 minutes from Cerritos and the fly fishing can be good there. It is likely that you will see other fly Anglers in those areas. I'm sure they would be willing to help you out.

Hey there Warubozu,

El Dorado isn't that great for catching but you sure can flyfish there and you'll find a lot of flyfishers willing to help you out.
I go there and flyfish exclusively and can usually ctch dink bass at least. ha ha

If you don't want to pay to get in, go to the spring gate after about 5:00 and you may freely enter if there are no personnel in the toll booths.
