Hay Guys I was wondering if you all could help me out?
I'm looking for a new Rod something I can use for jigs, texas rigged
worms, grubs. I was thinking something along the lines of a 6.5' to
7.0'in a medium heavy action. What do you guys think? What are some
good rods to look into? Any info is appreciated,Thanks.

I use the Phenix PX1-65M for worms and small jigs and the PX1-70H for larger Jigs and Pitching Senkos.

GLoomis GLX are awesome but they are a ton of dough. Try the IMX, they are very good. They are light, sensitive, but they still cost a pretty penny. Also, you might try Phenix.

Hey don't get the Phoenix I returned a 7" in September and I still have not gottren it back. I call every week and they give me the run around. I spent all day, to day and the will not answer. Good rods bad service. FYI the are loomis blanks(low Grade).x(

Just so everyone knows, Phenix rods recently was bought out by Ty Hessel. He is the guy who has worked there for 18 + years. The reason your rod hasn't been replaced yet is because of the ownership change. Ty is just now getting on his feet and is starting to work on the replacement rods. You are quick to point out the horrible service but have you paid for the replacement cost yet? Probably not. There are many things Ty has to do to get the business up and running and the last thing he needs is bad PR. I guarantee if you show up in person and let him know you are not satisfied, he will take care of you. He is one of the most honest, stand up guys in the business. As far as the quality of the blanks, you are wrong again. The PX-1 is very sensitive and is lighter than any G Loomis IMX rod. In fact, they weigh almost identical to a GLX. The blanks aren't G Loomis either.

Phenix does have bad customer service. I've heard they were using G Loomis seconds, but now have changed blanks to a lil bit cheaper blank? Maybe a rainshadow or amtak? I just purchased an Amtak blank for trout fishing and it looks just like my Phenix....once I wrap it I will be able to tell for sure.

I've been getting Phenix rods for close to 20 years and I'm only 33! The folks over there have never been anything less than gracious with their time, knowledge, and above all else, service. I've had them wrap rods from 4-piece pack rods for Alaskan Grayling and rainbows, to tuna sticks with excellent results all the way through. The new PX1 series rods are nothing but sick! Yes they are made at the G-Loomis factory, to Phenix specifications. Yes they did just move their facility and are still in the set-up process. Stop by and intoduce yourself to Ty and check out the new PX1's. Or better yet stop by one of the tackle shops and compare them yourself without anyone elses bias.

I'm not affiliated in any way, but I had put my 2-cents in.

P.S. I remember one time a friend and I were picking out baits for a weekend of Bass fishing at the river, we basically stopped by on our way out of town. Our eyes were bigger than our wallets, when it came time to pay for all the baits we picked out. We only had about 1/2 the cash we needed to pay for the stuff. When Larry Howard saw us putting back a bunch of stuff he told us to bring it back, that we were close enough. As we were paying and saying thanks he went into the back and came out with a couple of t-shirts and threw em to us and said something like, "Don't get your arm broke out there"!! Suggesting some real big bass lurked where we were headin. Me and my buddy still bust that call on each other.

The Phenix rods are awesome!

I have 2, both purchased @ BWW. (1) 7ft and (1) 6'3 that I use for jerk baits and topwater (Small sammy's and poppers)

If I did have any concerns or problems, I would just take it to Chris @ BWW and I know he'd kick me down some love.

I know one thing for sure, if they were not the highest quality for the $$...BWW or Angler's Marine would not carry them due to poor performance. Since they are responsible for turning me on to them, I feel pretty safe and more than satisfied that it is an excellent product.

I have been to the Phenix facility in Orange, and the people there were extremely helpful to me. I was just made aware of the new ownership, and I have not seen or heard any evidence that would NOT make me highly reccommend them.

Don't forget about the Pro-line Jigs and Ring Worms! Equally Awesome!

They are or were ? Located in Orange. Ty is the man. That guy has fixed so many of my rods at a moments notice, my hat goes off to him. He busts his @ss to please everybody and Larry . I would not go with any other rod due to the customer service they offer. And now that Ty is running the rod end of the business, it will only get better. He really is a nice guy but ya gotta realize how many people will try to take advantage of that in that industry. The quality of the Phenix line up in insane compared to the " production " rods of other companies. I have a 65M that is 15 years old and still has the original guides and the rod has never been broken, it aint pretty but it does the job. All the rods I take in to him are of other brands come to think of it and he repairs them all.

I have been fishing Phenix rods for over 10 years and I have a lot to say about these rods. Keep in mind I fish these rods mostly in Saltwater.

When I bought my first Phenix blank (965) I couldn't believe how affordable it was ($60 over 10 years ago and the price today still $60). I was skeptical about the rods strength at first but I was determined to try it. After buying the blank I went home and wrapped it and had it on the drying rack that afternoon. The following morning I was out on the water with it and was very pleased with the performance but only time would tell if it would be strong enough to last. Well 12 years have past and the rod has been with me on almost every trip since. I've used it everywhere including local boats (where I do most of my fishing), multiday tuna trips, overnight, kayaking, and some freshwater.

I will be the first to tell you that I am very hard on my tackle and I beat the rod to hell over the years. It's been jammed in to a countless number of walls/ceilings, It's been involved in many sword fights at the rail, slammed into rails/decks/other anglers who where in the way, been through several truck door closed on it incidents, Stepped on a couple times, and it's been through more than a couple hard kayak landings. A few of which involved hard landings in heavy surf on the rocks (ouch). Including one landing which snapped a Lamaglass in three pieces. The rods were strapped together with the Lamiglass a total loss however the old phenix suffered no damage from the landing. The fact that this rod is still in one piece after all this abuse just amazes me. Not to mention all the abuse I've put my other phenixes through with out any breaks so far.

Last season after I used my original 965 to catch a jackpot fish I began to think about all jackpots the rod had caught for me over the years. I wasn't sure if it would make it another season so I decided it was time to gather some of pictures of the catches it made over the years for the showcase. I retired it to my personal tackle hall of fame collection where it will join the ranks of the tady jig that has caught me over 50 yellows, the plastic worm which caught my largest LMB to date (12lbs @ my neighborhood park), my grandfathers bass plugs, and some old school reels. The first rod to make it in to my tackle hall of fame by the way.


Needless to say I bought several phenix's over the years. I have fished most the high end rods on the market and phenix is my favorite hands down. Calstars are also excellent in qaulity and strength but they are designed for mostly saltwater or heavier tackle fishing.
I don't believe for a second that Phenix's are Loomis seconds. Phenix has made rods for Loomis in the past and I don't doubt that Phenix will stand up to if not beat the qaulity of any Loomis rod. About 90% of Phenix Rods go over seas to Japan where the standards for qaulity and craftsmanship are higher than those here. I was told by one of the guys at Phenix that they had been happy with the overseas business and they were not too concerned with making it a point to target the markets here. It shows in their lack of advertisement. When was the last time you saw an add for phenix. Chances are never. They are a word of mouth product. There are only a few vendors who carry phenix localy but if you go to a bass tournament you'll see plenty of Pros using Phenix Rods.

The staff at Phenix has always been very helpful and provided me with excellent service. I was suprised when I read the about the trouble with the rod return. Based on my experiences with this company I am confident that it will work out. I would recommend these rods to anyone who is the market for a high performance rod with the strength to match. Wrong again! Phenix isn't using Loomis blanks or the other brands you have mentioned.

Phenix rods are bad ass, plain and simple.

I agree with Tsunami! You can't beat Phenix for performance, qaulity, or price. Not to mention the staff is cool. Simply Badass!

Phenix rods are great rods, don't get me wrong, but a lot of guys out my way here in San Bernardino county have had problems with thier customer service. The turners in San Bernardino has commented on that for me as well.

I do love my 6'6" trout rod I have from them.

DT---- What blanks do they use then? I heard it was thier 96% that were Loomis blanks.

To answer Jbyrd question phenix blanks are made by Phenix. They manufacture their own rods and as I understand it they also manufactured some models of blanks for Loomis in the past. So even though these rods may have sold as Loomis rods they where actually phenix rods with the loomis name and a marked up price tag. Some rod companies only manufacture a few select models and out source the rest of the manufacturing to other companies. Weather they are still manufacturing rods for other companies I really don't know. They have been rods for a long time and I believe this is reflected in their fine quality.

camerons are good in my book...if they still make them anymore.

and i have the 7' MH GL3 loomis rod. its ok, there's better for the money, acutally i think its kinda lite for the places i fish, but its a decent rod.

I have a IMX 283 i believe is 6'6" and its awsome, light and sensative. i have friends that use phenix and they have no complaints. I would go with the loomis IMX its for around $220 i believe.
