#7760, "January 17, Lake Wohlford"

Now that I've got my float tube down here I can expand my horizons a little bit. With poor results at Dixon yesterday I couldn't bring myself to pay money for a boat rental, so I launched the float tube at Wohlford. Got to the lake at noon and launched at Willow Cove. Kicked across the lake and fished that shoreline with slammer, jig, dropshot and big hammer, all the way up to the south shore rockpile where I kicked back across. There's a money looking point with a bunch of rocks right there and it's in very close proximity to the launch ramp, so assuming they plant the trout at the ramp, I figured there ought to be some fish stacked up right there. Well, not exactly. I fished that point for a good while with no bites until I threw the big hammer out away from the point a ways and got smacked by a chunky 2lber. That fish wasn't about to get away, I had to release some frustration on that one. Got it to the tube, snapped a quick picture and turned him loose. Only had about an hour and a half left to fish so I worked my way back throwing mostly the big hammer and slammer. Nothing else and the ranger kicked me out just before 5.

Thats what I have been telling you about. Good old Wholford. The water is way down, so take alot of pictures of the rockpiles. When the water comes back up, they get stacked on them. Especially in the fall. Most of the piles are in 10 feet of water so they are perfect targets for big cranks big worms and big swimbaits. Emphesis on BIG, because there are alot of BIG old bass in that lake. It has very low fishing pressure and a ton of trout and shad for food. Not to mention dirty water so they cant get picked off the beds and taken home.

Nice chunky fish!!

Yeah that lake does feel right. I think I'll have a good time when I get rob's boat down here (if they ever open the frickin launch ramp). Didn't get em today, but I'm looking forward to trying to put something together at that lake.

I thought about taking pics of all those rockpiles today actually. Didn't do it, but next time I should. Man, there's a ton of rock in that lake.
