Not all the trout caught in Orange County are dumped into the water from a truck! I caught an adult female Steelhead in Dana Point harbor while slow-trolling from my Kayak. It bit on a 2" moke/sparkle grub, on my favorite ultra-light 7' carbon shimano trout jig tosser with two pound test line!

Great fight, very unusual catch! Released her, of course.

The OC Register has a write up on this in Dave Strege's column, front page of the Venture section, Tuesday, January 7th.

Thats a cool thing to see. Like you said, very unusual. Of course, it is the Dana Point Harbor. I remember watching a guy about 5 years ago land a 25-30lb Black Sea Bass right by the bait barge. It was great to watch him land it, take a very quick picture and then watch it swim away. And, I remember working at Embarcadero Marina and seeing 2 little tuna swiming back and forth under the hoist. They were all confused.

Some strange things swimming in that harbor.,
