Has anyone fished there lately? Are the fish looking any healthier? Is Oso Bob still in charge or
have the Boy Scouts taken over? Did they ever add shad to the lake?

Lots of questions, I know. I'm just curious to hear what the latest is on this lake.

dude, water is waaaaay up, no crazy action, but I drove by before work last week ad saw a gigantic shad-ball outside of the marina, from waht I have heard people are scrapping em' on smoke/blk cranks, spider-grubs, and french fries by the damn, fish are still pretty Ally Mcbeal-ish.

Yes, the fish are still pretty thin (although there are a few chunks) but that place is definitely in the dump's esp. compared to past years. We went last week and caught maybe 15 or so small fish (1-2) lbers. all on 5" storm swimbaits fished deep by the dam (fish them like a spider jig, slow on the bottom.

Thanks for the information. I'm not really planning a trip there in the immediate
future. I'm more curious about the lake than anything else. It has so much
potential. I do hope to get out there eventually though and am hoping things
begin to get better there.

i fish it alot.....its my favorite in the winter over any spots down here because the fishing is usually decent. you can easily go to the dam and slowly fish it for a few good fish.......even in the dead of winter, there are also spots where the fish just stack up on the bottom and can be caught every other cast.......plus when all else fails bust out the hot dog chunks, i maybe the only one that thinks this but i like the place. sure it may be poorly run and the fish may need a little weight but it will come back trust me i think the boy scouts might do it some good. or who ever might take it over. i hope to see this place back to what i hear it used to be

I grew up fishing this place, and Irvine and Peter's Canyon and the Villa Park dam and Rattlesnake and Katella and the Hole and several gravel pits/golf courses and ball road and a bunch of other places that I've forgotton or don't have a name for. But then I hit 18, and had to worry about trespassing. Got a ticket at Oso. Only trespassing ticket I ever got. But then it, like Irvine, was opened to the public for $$ and I haven't been there since...

BTW I used to think everyone caught like 50 nice bass a day and three pound crappie and 1.5 pound bluegill and giant channel cats on crankbaits and trout in the santiago river...miss those days

Maybe I'll go kayaking or tubing at OSO if it has a good winter bite, what does it cost?

be ready to pay alot....i think its like 40 bucks. if you are nice alot of times they will let you just fish and most times you can just find a place to park and launch anywhere from your tube, they are really lazy


how do i get to Rattlesnake. is it private because we tried once and we couldnt find access into the farm or whatever. thanks

If the fish in Oso resembled Oso Bob, we'd have a trophy lake! Look at the belly on that one!

You can drive right up to the gate, but it is locked and patrolled the last time i was there...years ago...
