#5369, "ILLINOIS FISHERMAN LANDS PIRANHA ON WHITE RIVER"
Angler Charles Harker was fishing the White River near Muncie, Illinois, when he caught what first appeared to be a large bluegill--until he saw its teeth.
The fish is believed to be a 12-inch piranha, the highly carnivorous fish native to the Amazon River.
The fish was most likely released illegally into the river after it outgrew someone's home aquarium. Biologists say piranhas cannot survive the harsh Illinois winters, so there is little chance that a breeding population of the fish has taken hold.

i heard that the DFG found a couple piranha's in a garden pond in a park in downtown santa barbara in the early 90s. i've heard a lot of other stories about this too, so i guess its not an uncommon thing, which is pretty unfortunate. just my two cents.

They've also found piranhas in Lake Elsinore and Lake Skinner. There was another lake out this way where they caught a piranha, I can't remember though if it was perris or not.
I believe Lake Elsinore was just about 2 months ago.
