#32, "June 30, 1999 Santa Margarita Lake"

Matt and I fished the lake from 6pm till dark on Wednesday. It was really hot up there and pretty much calm wind wize. The fishing when the sun was out on the water (as it has been lately) was pretty tough. We fished back by the dam in the shallow areas and around about when the sun got off the water we saw some fish breaking and I threw a 3/4oz hopkins on them, had two solid bites and missed them both. Matt got bit on a buzz bait and missed that one too. Then I missed a solid boil on the frog. Hmmmm. Well after sucking it up I caught a dink and then a 2 pounder at the same time that Matt nailed a 2 and a half on an STI spook type bait (I got mine on a skitter pop). We caught a few more dinks, Matt got another decent one and we missed a few. Then we hit some shallow flats and it was slow until we got back on to some steeper banks where I landed another 2-5 or so fish on a big black spook. The fish were all really chunky and looked like they have been feeding heavily.
