#3167, "Legg Lake, Peck Road Lake, etc."

Has anyone ever fished these other small urban lakes? I understand Legg is free during the week, $3 on the weekend... I don't know anything about Peck and have never been to either one.

Are there any other small urban lakes like this?

Are there bass in the small lakes like Cerritos Park Lake, Mile Square Park Lake, etc.?

No. Peck Rd Park is off of Peck Rd in El Monte, 3 miles north of the 10 FWY. The one off of the 60 is Legg Lake. Peck is free to fish all the time and if you want more info on it, check out the report I just posted on the board. You can also post a question if you want and I'll try to respond. I've also fished Legg Lake many times and it has alot of bass and catfish along with trout, when they stock it. The north lake is best for trout and cats while the south lake puts out more of the bass and also a good number of fat cats.

Which of these lakes have bass in them and how much do they cost? Also is there float tubing allowed in any of them?

Basserman. I know El Dorado, Peck, Puddingstone ( a.k.a. Bonelli Park ), San Dimas, Sante Fe and Pyramid all have pretty descent bass action. As far as tubes go, I know Puddingstone, Sante Fe and Pyramid all allow tubes. You can probably get away with tubes at San Dimas and Peck with San Dimas probably your safer bet ( as far as getting fined goes ). But I don't know the regs at that lake. I live behind Peck and know they don't allow boats of any kind there but have seen many a tube being kicked along, so it's your call. As for prices, Sante Fe charges six to get in and six to tube. Puddingstone charges six to get in and I don't know about the tubes. El Dorado I believe is also six to get in and I don't know if they allow any water contact of any kind. Pyramid I have no idea, it's been years since I fished it. Peck and San Dimas are both free of charge. If I were to tube one of these lakes I would go with Puddingstone. I have seen some monster bass taken from the boat rental area, the east end and around sailboat cove. Just ask the guys at the boat rentals. They will steer you straight. Good Luck. Hope this helps.

SJ, I don't know but I've heard there are bass in the lakes like Cerritos, La Mirada and some of the other small urban lakes in the area. When fishing at La Mirada for trout earlier this year I spoke to a guy throwing a plastic craw for bass and he told me it, Cerritos and El Dorado all had bass. I knew El Do had but didn't know the others did.

I fished Lake Lake yesterday for the first time since October. When I fished it in October that was the my first time in about 10 years. I used to fish all the time when I was in high school once that was done I went to college in Pomona and fished Puddingstone about 3 times a week. Puddingstone is great this of year by the way. The lake spawns than earlier than most and the fishing ussually really starts to pick up around the end of Feburary. There are some really nice bass in that lake too. There are also a lot of talented bass fishman combing the shores everyday so the fish can get weary.

Ok back to Legg lake. The post below which mentions the differences in the lakes is very true. I wasn't dissapointed for home coming back in October I fished it during the last hour of sun light. I fished the South Lake(big lake) and the first fish I hooked was a monstor which I observed feeding in shallow water. I cast my plastic worm and the fish couldn't resist. I got popped off quick. That's what I get for using 4lb well he swam straight for a branch. Anyways with in a couple minutes I was back business and I went on to catch and release about a 2lb fish. I got bit once more after that but couldn't get him to stick. A couple days later it got cold and it's been that way until now. I fished the last hour of light on Sunday. First cast with a swim resulted in a boil leading to a hook up but the fish fell off near shore and that was it. I came across about 5 other fisherman as I made my way through the spots. They were all bass fisherman who knew how to fish. It's amazing the talant that comes to these lakes.

I can tell that Peck Road can be good too but most of the lake is closed and there is no access to the closed areas. I would have to say that Santa Fe Dam is probably worst for producing quality. If you want to fish a lake in a LA that can put Barrett to shame. Try the Quaries accross FWY from Santa Fe Dam. Just be careful. The loose gravel is dangerous and if the Sherrif runs security. I used to go when I was a teenager. I wouldn't do it now but I have some good memories and great stories from those lakes.

This is all great information... It's nice to know we have a few options in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

I've been looking into other urban lakes... and found Yorba Park and Carbon Canyon Park as two more possibilities.

Hey SJ,
I'm out by Carbon Canyon a lot. Are there any lake/creeks/stream, hell I'll even take swimming pools out there? ;-)
