#200, "March 2, 2000 Santa Margarita Lake"

Went for the usual afternoon run to the lake today and fished from 3 to 6. There was a trout plant today of what looked like smaller trout, 1600 pounds I think but I'm not sure. I started out throwing the 9" MS Slammer in and around the marina area. Dean and I were talking when I hear a boil and turned around to see what I'm almost positive was a big striper boil. I flipped the trolling motor on high and headed over. 50 casts later I gave up and decided to flip some jigs. Caught 2 nice ones right away with one going 3-9 on the scale. I tried up the lake but didn't find much so I went back down by the marina and caught 3 more solid fish flipping. They were 2 to 3 pounders. The lake is COMPLETELY FULL to the brim. It's nice because there's so much more to fish now. Weather was overcast and drizzly and the water clarity is anywhere from 6 inches to about 2 feet in the sheltered coves. All of the fish I caught were fat and really healthy. The females are plumping up with eggs big time. Catch and release.
Here's the 3-9

I was there that same day fishing from the dock and saw that same boil. I got a pretty good look at it. Looked like a striper to me!
