Fished the opener by myself in the big boat. Got there around 6:45am. The whole way I was praying it wouldn't rain so that I could get past the quagmire inspection. It wound up never raining all day :)

The dam retrofit is complete and the lake is filling. Whether it will fill this year will depend on rainfall. Water was 1 to 3 foot vis. Temps were very warm for February, up to 57 deg.

Looked like trout fishing was OK but not great. People were catching trout but not limits style wide open like it used to be years ago. Bass fishing was decent, if you like catching spotted mongrel bass.

I continue to pray that whoever dumped spots in San Pablo will run over a large nail on their next trip to the lake.

Some of these

And more

And even more

And a lonely one of these

And two awesome barni at the launch ramp with boat problems getting a jump from a truck while the boat was still in the water while talking on the cell phone so you could hear them a mile away. And one guy who thought it was cool to fish right up to me, stop his boat 10 feet from my boat and then keep on fishing while asking lots of questions about what I had caught and where. He said he caught 3 bass, all spots. Hey, it was opening day and San Pablo, I shined it on. The lake has reached rock bottom so say a prayer for DFG trout, high water, and death to spotted bass.

Went home, washed up the boat and dialed in for the McClure ABA event tomorrow. Tomorrow 2lb spotted bass are very welcome in my boat.

They've been there for at least 10 years. First one I saw was fishing with Ryan Thoni in fall of 2000. Just took a while for them to turn the tide and start multiplying like rabbits. If the lake gets filled up again and they start stocking DFG trout again, I think big bass fishing could come back, but it will never be the same as it once was.
