Since I'm in California for a few weeks, I was able to hook up with Cameron Smith, my man, for a little day trip to Lake Otay. Cameron had a Federation tournament today. I have no idea how he fared today, but my guess is that he won or was in the Top 2.
Otay is one of the two lakes I used to really fish hard and cut my teeth on swimbait fishing on. Otay used to not be trout fed, but apparently they threw in some this year or something like that. None the less, Otay is an awesome little lake. Grass, tules, wood and rock. Pretty neat. The water level is right where I left it, about 5 years ago I'm guessing is when I was last there. Perfect water level, 72 degree water, boats but not horrible boats, and some good fish eating.

Check this out. George Pernico and his 2 boys. These 2 boys are the youngest guys I've ever seen tossing the swimbaits. I've never seen little fellers throw full blown bigbaits. These guys has the rods, reels, baits, attitude, addicted style, and even a picture fish to go with it. Rock on little Pernicos, we'll see you on Tour sometime soon:

And finally, Cameron wouldn't allow us to fish anything he knew, so we had to go create a new bite. Well, in San Diego, Cameron could probably catch fish on 5 different patterns at any given time if he really wanted to. Check out this fish, deep water strolling, suspended fish:
