Technically what exactly makes a drop shot, a drop shot? If I were to just take a plastic lure and dangle it off the bottom of a lake wouldn't that be drop shotting? I still don't get the nuances of this type of fishing. Why is this made out like it's some new fangled discovery?

i think because you dont have to work it as much it kinda works itself more than you do all you have to do is shake it but with texas rig and all those other rigs you have to work it you also get alot more action with drop shotting than any other rig looks more realistic. well thats what i think.

Kinda what he said above and the most important, it stays in the strike zone longer then the others(Split-shoting,lead-head).
