For all of you that fish Castaic frequently, I went out yesterday and found out there will no longer be lifequards working the lake. They were all laid off effective Feb 1st. However, there was one police boat out enforcing speeding/boating rules. Not a very good sign of what's to come. On a lighter note, fishing was good. Caught a couple bass didn't see anyone catching stripers. Headed in early as the weather started to turn.

The only time that I have seen any use for lifeguards is for towing in broken down boats or coming around to tell me that the lake was closing. I used to tow people in but then was told not to by the lifeguard/patrol guys.

My brother-in-law capsized at the dock by a freak wave. his mother went under. he went down twice to finally find her. the lifeguards were worried about his boat..........

LIfeguards/patrol guys are the ones NOT enforcing the speed laws. Couple of deaths (and resulting lawsuits) over the last couple of years due to this inaction didn't help their causes any, IMO.

The Police boat comes around and checks for fishing licenses. That's cool.

THere will be two life guards on duty at the uper lake they keep the docks in the right position when the water goes up or down and they get to do life guard work that we dont get to see or hear about especialy with skiers every year one of them get cut up and there are boating accidents that I know of, not to long ago a bass fishing boat hit a sking boat no one was hurt bad but the bass boat landed on the other boat so they do work from time to time, like one of the guys said where can you get paid sitting around most of the time.

Yeah, like Bert said. I heard that 2 lifeguards will be on hand at the upper lake. I would believe there is set schedules for them. So, there may be a time when no lifeguard is available. I would think. It is good to know POLICE are on hand. I also heard they have done some BEER BUSTING. AWWWHH MAN!! No hiding beer in your ice chest? Tickets? I guess there is a good and bad side to that. Wild speeders & reckless boaters under the influence VS. laid back drunks just wanting catch something, if not then just a buzz. Maybe if I try that jesus-juice trick = coke can with alcohol. No, better yet a 2 liter NES-TEA bottle with beer. Now we're talking! :7

All jokes aside, I was not trying to encourage any one. It really is not worth the ticket. Irvine Lake & Santa Ana River Lakes allows drinking alcoholic bevs. because it is private property.

On sunday 3 guys with about 25 trout were caught at the west ramp and the police searched their car and had it impounded. On Monday I saw a guy talking to the police at the lower lake he later told me that they got him with out his lic. and they told him the fine will be no less then 275.00 up to 700.00 boy what a costly lesson. The police had every one open up their ice chest at the west ramp they sit in the life guard tower and look for law breakers. We should sell beer in coke cans might make a million dollats. Just kidding Im glad the police is cracking down on the guys that take over their lim.
