#12084, "Castaic saturday AM"

I knew that I should have gone to Pyramid when I saw over 20 boats in line at 6:30. Talked with the guys waiting in front of me until 7 when they opened the front gate. It took about a half hour to get through the gate.

Tried fishing a pencil popper around the marina but there was a continuous flow of boats in and out so after a half hour I took off for my regular spots on the fishing arm.

There were boats everywhere, on every point, on all the flats, most within casting distance of each other; plus a few wake boarders.
About 9:00, a stiff breeze started coming out of the NE so I decided to go over to the ski side where the water would be much nicer.

WHOA!!! beautiful water!!! I also found out why there were so many boats on the fishing arm...."FEAR FACTOR" was filming at the West ramp and they had the entire ski arm closed to everyone...on a saturday. What's there to "FEAR" at Castaic? Thanks guys.

By this time, the wind was kicking up the water into a bit of a chop and more boats were flowing into the fishing arm so I headed for the ramp

The trout were wide open. 3000#s planted less than 24hours before get pretty hungry. But I wasn't there for the trout in 6" of water at the ramp. I got a chuckle on trouting strategy: there's no fishing from the docks so the guys were tying up to the dock and "fishing" from their boats.

Stopped by the lower lake for some peace and quiet, talked with the patrol guy about the night fishing scheduled for saturday night, and went on home.

Since I was in the perfect mood....I took a couple of hours to change the wheel bearings on the trailer.

Anyone fish saturday night?

As long as I STILL have a full gas tank, I'll be heading back up on MOnday AM to try it again.

I fished the night event and the fishing really sucked. I didn't see one striper or even a boil all night. I threw the slammer for about three hours and then the charlie for the rest. The only action I saw was a little fight going on at the docks.Anyone else have better luck?

I also heard that Castaic receives no money from the filming because all the money just goes to the counties general fund. Is this true?

I talked a bit with the woman at the front gate monday morning. she said that the filming money ALL goes to the County General Fund. she was also handing out flyers that the last day the lake will be open is january 31. that should be about the same time that the multi-million dollar improvements are completed. The lake should be ready for more private filming but no public access. Oh Boy!

fishing: the trout are still grouped at the ramp with stripers keeping them coralled. LMB are still pushing shad up in some of the coves. the pull start on my motor didn't recoil so I got to see how long my batteries last with my new electric motor. the weather was absolutely "most excellent"
