#11456, "Loveland Reservoir / Lake Morena"

Has anyone fished either Loveland Reservoir or Lake Morena
recently? Does anyone know if it is even open for fishing? I
can only fish from a kayak or shore. Sad to say no boat yet.
I have never been at these places so directions would be great
too. I am heading south on the 15 FWY.

Morena is open daily, the water is VERY low, only about 9%
full. You can use a kayak there or shore fish. 15 South to 8
east about 40 minutes and you'll see the turnoff on your
right. Loveland is shorefishing only and only within about a 2
mile section. I nave never fished it so I can't tell you how
to get there.

Basser,

I was thinking of fishing the reservoir this Friday. I just
had a few more questions. How long is the hike from the
parking lot to the designated fishing area? Is there a marker
or sign posted for the fishing grounds? Any input would be
appreciated.

Its about a half mile maybe a little more. Yes you can tell
there is a big line of bouys going across the lake where
fishing access ends.

Time 7:30am - 12:30pm
Clear sky, no wind in the morning.  Slight west wind from
10:45am till 12:30pm. Water was cold and murky with 1.5' vis.

I started off by throwing reaction baits with no love.  After
reassessing the conditions, I tied on a jig with a mad manns
craw.  I was expecting good things due to the conditions, but
alas no love.  I then tried a yami cut tail working it very
slow and got a 4#. Moving on to the next spot, I switched to
the other stick with a drop shot rig. After making a cast, I
took out a little birds nest and worked the 6" Aaron's
magic a few times and I felt a little tick but nothing.  I
slowly worked the worm one more time and she came back to
finish it off.  Another 4#.  Looked like a duplicate of the
first.  I tried several other spots for nothing and saw some
bait being pushed to the surface up ahead.  I quickly moved
over and threw a cut tail and was rewarded with a plump little
2#. The pattern is slow, very slow.  All three fish were
caught outside tulle patches.  Just as Basser said they
would. I can only imagine what this place is like in the pre
to post spawn. I'll be back.

Thanx for all your help guys.
