#10469, "American Bass Angerls Draw Tourney Results-El Capitan"

We had an American Bass Anglers Draw tourney at El Capitan today. The temp rose to 101 degrees by the end of the day.We had a 12 noon weigh-in compliance with DFG regulations during the warm water months. The bite was decent, but not as expected. The following are the top 3 finishers: 1st Place-myself, Rich Welch, with the only 5 fish limit weighing in a big 8.95 lbs.3 fish were caught on a 3" smoked senko on 4 lb. Maxima Ultragreen with a Mustad 2/0 lightwire offset worm hook,1 keeper on a Strike Pro Walking Stick Jr. color 500G, and one on a 4" SR Plastic Oxblood/Red Flake worm dropshotting (of course). There were alot of breaking/schooling fish throughout the morning and thanks to my Kaenon Polarized glasses I could see the fish coming up to boil on the bait before it happened allowing me the advantage to cast on the bait before the fish made it move to boil on them.I am telling you if you do not have a pair of polarized lenses from Kaenon Polarized you need to look at getting a pair.2nd place went to Cameron Smith with 4 fish for 7 lbs.He caught them all over on crankbaits/spinnerbaits.Cameron left the El Cajon Ford Nite Tourney after jumping from his boat, as it was being pulled out by his partner, to arriving just in time to hear that they had won the tourney and $4500.He quickly locked down the boat and his gear at about 4am.He then proceeded to drive from San Vicente over to El Cap for a 430am check-in for the draw tourney. It was a good thing that the tourney was over at noon.He did good and I hope he arrived back at Dana Point on such little rest in great shape.3rd place went to Chuck Harney with 2 fish weighing in at 6.95 lbs.Good thing for us that he didn't catch anymore with that size weight going.Chuck and Cameron are WON Team partners in the San Diego region. All in all it was good and the friendships and stories were great at the awards ceremony. Our 2 day districts is within a month-and it is going to be a showdown between Cameron and myself to see who walks away with the Angler of the Year.It is my turn, because he just got Angler of the Year in the San Diego Region BASS Federation and I was in third just 5 points behind him.Great fishing and see you guys on the water-Late,'Bama

Nice job Rich, and Chuck!!

Its been a fun year again and I look forward to the district. Its going to be a rat fishing fest and I know we will have close to 40lbs for the 2 day total. That is if we land all the ones that bite. Thats been my problem there in the lat 2 tourneys. Oh well, thats fishing!!

El Cap, well what can I say. The place is a tiny little mudhole with some of the poorest excuses for bass that I have ever Seen. I cant remember the last time I have looked forward to fishing that lake, but with the tournament schedules, I have no choice. I sholdnt complain cause I have always done welll there on reaction baits day in and day out, but its frustrating fishing a lake for 17 inch fish that dont even weight 2 lbs. Allthough Chuck found a couple fat ones:)

Now San V on the other hand, I am still haveing flashbacks of 8lbers thrashing all the way along the surface to the net. Nervous times, but the 'ol Loomis BBR966 out the whoopin in her for sure!!!

Overall it was a fun and profitable weekend, allthough fishing 2 tourneys within 24 hours is a little rough on the body:)

Later
Cam

The Kaenons (yellow) are the bomb. I bought a pair for my son and I. We took my wife fishing. We were seeing fish and pointing them out to her, but she couldn't see them with her Bolle polarized glasses. When she tried ours, she could see them no problem. We now own three pairs.
