I would like everyones input on their 5 favorite senko or senko imitation colors!

1)Green pumpkin blk flk or Green Pumpkin rd Flk.
2)Black with prple flk or black with red flk
3)Cinnamin with lrg rd flk.
4)June bug or Purple with blu and rd flk.
5)Smoke with blk flk and small halogrm flk.

It all boils down to a variation of the following five colors

1) Green.
2) Black.
3) Cinnamin /Oxblood.
4) Purple.
5) Smoke.

I stick to variations of these basic colors when throwing plastic worms as well. They have all caught me a lot of bass. Regardless if it's light conditions I seem to have more luck with darker shades.

Yamamoto color #222! Nickenamed the xmas tree Senko. Watermelon with red and green flakes.

In order of my favorites;

234 - purple pearl w blue flake
167 - motor oil w red flake
157 - smoke w black & purple flake
214 - smoke w black, blue & gold flake
213 - june bug

These are my favorite colors for day or night (mostly night)
1. Cinnamon/purple flake
2. Watermelon/red flake
3. Black/blue flake
4. Purple/emerald flake
5. Pumpkin/black flake
Although the senko is no where near a big fish bait for me, I seem to get better fish on the 4" and the quality decreases as I use the bigger baits :)

I've caught the most fish by far on black with blue fleck. I agree with Jerry that it doesn't seem to matter what the water conditions are the fish just like this bait in dark colors. June bug is my sencond pick.

I fished Barret last month and caught fish on everything, but the senkos (in any color) were catching fish 3 to 1 over any other bait. Is it the salt? or the thickness? also we lost the lure almost every time when the fish jumped, they sink so fast we only retrieved a few, we lost over 100 of these that day. My question is...Can the bass poop them out????lol....Because I know the odds are they didn't even hit the bottom.....Dumb question maybe but would like to know........

I can tell you that the bass in our aquarium have passed everything from Senkos to 7" Mission Fish. Don't know how the baits ever got in the tank...LOL. But it's interesting to see how their stomachs absorb all the salt out of a bait and then let it pass through their system. They also have regurgitation abilities that rival those I had during my college years=too much MGD...LOL.

As to Senko colors it's:
1. #912 Watermelon/Green Pumpkin Laminate
2. #008 Oxblood Red Flake (BWW exclusive)
3. #208 Watermelon Red Flake
4. #021 Black/Blue Flake
5. #187 Milky Salt and Pepper

Color matters less to me than the action. Senko imitations make no sense to me, why buy a knock-off when the original is available? Deal with the fraility of the bait, salt makes it work.

You mean to tell me that they can actually S#it it out? Through their little Bung Holes? I gotta see this! :o

All the colors suggested thus far work well. There is only one color that I would add. That is the pearl white. Works well in certain conditions.

I have never caught jack on a Senko so I have no favorite colors in them, except the ones CJ left in my boat, which I still ain't caught jack on, but he did so they must work, just not for me. I suck. I think I am going to go back to hunting. I can't expect a senko to work for me there either. Jeff, if I see you trying to squeeze a senko out of a fish's bung hole, you my friend, will not be allowed in my boat. Fish protology on your part will definitely cause you to loose at least 10 sight fishing credits.

The Watermelonseed Salt Stix seem to be the most popular with Watermelonseed Gold and Watermelonseed Red taking the lead. Watermelonseed Purple and the Watermelonseed/Pearl Laminate are probably a close second.

If you like Senkos you should definetely check out the Assalt Salt Stix. They are almost identical to Senkos and cost alot less. Most of the feedback I have gotten so far is that they catch just as many fish but don't tear up as easily. Tackle Warehouse (click on "shop online" in menu above) should have them in a couple of weeks.

Hi CJ...do you work at Bass World West? I saw online that they have a tank with Bass in it...I was wondering what procedure you went throught to legally keep bass in a tank...I used to live in the midwest and would get bass from private hatcheries and they are really amazing...lots of character...I was just wondering in California, how can one qualify to keep native fish? I'd love to have some so I can have live reference when I paint and draw them...

Blue, CJ is a flat out law breaker. Just ask his Parole Officer. Since I like to hang around with such shady characters as Chris, I wouldn't shop anywhere else, the only place I can look at a live pig in the water during the week. Just in case his work ferlow cleaning up the sides of the freeways doesn't allow him to get back on here for a few days, I believe I remember him telling me they got a permit from the DFG for a one time deal to catch, transport and possess live game fish. Of course I was like many who had a large aquarium with some small bass and bluegills in it. Can't remember the DFG task force knocking on the door asking for a permit though. One problem with keeping bass is....they eat a grip of chow. Might as well have another kid cuz it's much cheaper than feeding them fish.

Yeah when I back in Missouri I used to have these 6inch bass fingerlings and I would put in 2inch bluegills to accompany them and they would dissapear one by one...but you can always tell who ate what....as you can see the entire bluegill wedge in the stomach of that little bass...its amazing...the stomach was so distorted I thought it was gonna die...you could see a the bluegills head pushing against the stomach and I could believe that the stomach and sking could stretch so much....after this incident I never doubt that a bait is "too big" for bass....LOL...

Hooksetter got it right, we do have a permit to transport and posses live game fish, but I am also a flat-out law breaker. I've had an aquarium with bass in it at home for about 3 years. I just caught a 12" dink at a local park pond and brought him home in a Ziploc freezer bag. I just make sure never to invite anyone from DFG over for dinner.

Peacock bass are readily available at several good tropical fish shops, and are just as fun to feed and watch. DaKine deals with these types of fish and could give you some great info. You still out there Evan?

Chris, you can get Peacocks here now? Dude that's insane. Imagine if some sucka got them aclimated to our lake's water temps and (cough, cough) accidentally lost some in our local lakes. Dude how crazy would that be. Time to dust off them 8-inch devil horses and chug bugs. LOL.

Hooksetter...they have peacocks in Florida...in the canals....and backwaters...
I fished them last year in Malaysia and they are such a burst of energy....I caught 15 of them about 7inchers and kept them in my dad's 2400 gal tank and when we would feed them minnows...the dart around with amazing speed, you almost couldnt see them but they turn corners better than a fly and always manage to get its prey...I live in Los Angeles and in chinatown this Dim Sum restaurant has a pair of them and everytime I visit they seem to have grown much bigger in a short time...But anyways out here in LA in my local pond I have seen tons of exotic fish-Oscars, 3feet long Mongrel Carp...no just kidding...but I do see these 3feet long bright orange fish swimming around...must be Koi....and then the most amazing one was I saw a 3feet long Arowana....bright silver with an eel like tail fringed with orange....it was hiding among lily pads.

Yup Hooksetter....he's a "fish guy" Sells/imports/exports fish...mostly Japanese Koi now...Too bad they dont have any largemouth bass in Malaysia....I'd put one in there!!! LOL!
I did hear someone tried to bring them to Malaysia but the climate was too hot...so they moved them up to some resort in the mountains...but the Peacocks seem to thrive there...I guess the weather there almost duplicates the one in Amazon...Oh yeah forgot to tell you...my dad also has two 6ft long Pirarucu/Arapaima Gigas...they are awesome...one of the largest freshwater fish...also has armour plated scales...

Blue, please tell me with a tank the size of my house and all those big ass fish in it, you at least tossed an eight inch power worm in there on your flipping stick when dad was out of town. The armor plated thing would make a good fight I'm sure of it.
