Fished the Delta Mendota aqueduct for an hour on Thanksgiving day and caught 3 stripers. All were under-sized and had to be released. Anybody know how to catch the bigger ones out of here and what lures to use?

1st) Look for a "good spot". My favorite on the DM is where it Y's and one leg goes to the O'niel Forebay. There are a lot of eddies and rip currents here. Other good spots are at gates, pumping stations, and bridge pilings. Corners can be one-hit wonders. Look for eddies(anywhere a current goes in a different direction from the main current). 2nd) Remember that their main food here is Shad and minnows take a close 2nd. This means shiny or white lures. 3rd) Stripers move constantly. Unless your fishing bait, MOVE! I never make more than 5 casts without walking 1/2 a cast length atleast. 4th) Learn how to walk a Zara Spook. This is a great lure for DM stripers. It's not a monster-fish type lure but for fish legal size up to about 10#s it can't be beat, except maybe by 5th) a 1/4oz Hair-raiser in the hands of an experienced fisherman. 6th) Dont forget to use Baitbutter on the hair-raiser. Shad or Anchovy scent.
