#534, "directions to santa margarita"

Hey guys,
I'm going to be at the Vandeberg AFB on the 18th, and I wanted to know how far is the AFB from Santa Margarita. How do I get to the lake from Vandenberg AFB? Is there a closer lake? If you guys could give me some tips, that would be excellent.
thanks for the help-vince

From the front gate of VAFB it will take you just over an hour to get to Margarita. From Vandenberg find your way to Hwy 101(either go east through Lompoc to Buellton if you're at the South end of the base or take Hwy 1 north to Santa Maria if you're at the North end of the base). Take Hwy 101 north to the Santa Margarita exit, Hwy 58(just north of San Luis Obispo over the Cuesta Grade) Just past the town of Santa Margarita you turn right onto Pozo Rd. Just follow the signs from there, its about 8 miles from the town. Good luck with the fishing!
Another option is Lopez Lake. Take 101 north to Grand Ave. exit in Arroyo Grande. Follow the signs for another 10 miles. This lake is closer and will save you about 30 miles. Say hi to Pete at Wilderness Outfitters in Arroyo Grande if you go to either of these lakes to find out the latest info.
Where are you going to be at VAFB. I work there on the Titan rockets at SLC-4 and I live in Santa Maria.

Vincent,
Great looking launch today! With all those delays, did you get a chance to fish? How'd you do? Sorry I didn't reply to your call for advice but I was out of town on buisness all last week and away from my computer.

Ken,
I didn't get to see the launch, but i bet it would have been pretty cool. I'm hoping to get some fishing done this weekend, maybe at margarita or one of the big trout lakes here in so cal. I'll make another post when i'm sure of which lake i'll be fishing.
