Got to the lake super early, was like the 5th car in line before the gate opened. There was a little over cast in the sky and a slight breeze. Usually when the conditions are like that I catch a bunch of fish. But not this day my friends. Blanked, didnt catch jack you know what. I probably couldnt even have bought a fish out there if i had to. That sucked, thats the first time ive ever got skunked at Perris. I fished from 6am to 11am with not even a nibble. Threw everything, dropshot, splitshot, senko, jigs, blade. Hope its just one of those summer time things and not the beginning of a slump. Damn why did i miss that Dave Nollar seminar at bass world west!!!!! im sure that wouldve helped. Hey CJ any good info that Dave gave up that day?

Toughing going there, bro.

I fished Eldo for a bit over the weekend in the mornings (trying to take advantage of early cloud cover) and couldn't catch a thing either. I did have a fish blow up on a buzz bait, but it didn't take the bait. Also saw a small school of bass in the small lake in area 3 and couldn't get them to take the buzzer either... flipped a jig/hula grub into where I thought they were and had one take the jig, but spit it before I could set the hook. Tough fishing. No other bites in two mornings of fishing. Lots of guys were throwing poppers from the shore, but I didn't see anyone hook up. I also tried tex-rigged robo worm, but that didn't generate any action either.

Yo SJ, thanks for the Eldo report. Sounds like fishing is tough all around huh? So you got one to whack a buzzbait at eldo? I need to start throwing one more often there. Im actually thinking of going down to Bass World West and picking up an MS Slammer and start throwing that for the day. Seeing a ton of fish are being caught on that bait. I know for sure it would work at eldo w/ the water clarity being the way it is. Ive already had luck w/ a pro rigged osprey there.

Talking to people around the lake (Eldo) I never know what to believe... I heard a guy caught a 5 pounder in the area you like to fish (near the kiddie train) on a speedtrap. I also heard a guy caught an 11 pounder on a popper recently. I didn't actually see any of this - so take it with a grain of salt.

I've heard the top water bite early and late can be good at Eldo, but I've yet to experience it. The water has certainly gotten more clear, that's for sure. Lots of baby bass along the shore. I've also seen some big carp busting the surface at the little lake latey.

I wish the rangers would actually patrol the lake from time to time... I'm tired of seeing catfisherman with 4-5 poles each in the water.

Sorry Tsunami, I missed Dave's summer seminar on Perris myself. Summertime over there can often be a much better bite in the afternoon when the boat traffic stirs up the water and gets both bait and bass on the move.

Look for some surfacing schooling bass here real soon. Topwater, ripbaits, and burning blades will catch them for the first couple weeks. After that they school a little deeper as the shad move down and you have to use spoons and tailspinners.

Thanks Chris for the tips. After a few weekends of so so fishing and that last weekend when i got skunked i was thinking of completely blowing off Perris for the whole summer and coming back in the Fall. But i cant give up that easy. Now i think i need to come into the shop and grab some new gear that you were mentioning. I dont have a boat and i dont want to rent one either so im fishing strictly for the shore maybe thats my problem, i guess im pretty limited to whats out there since im not "on" the water, but as of next week im gonna have a new kick boat so that will help some, especially getting me out to deeper water where the fish might be at. I might even look at a new fish finder when i cruise in too.

I was out there yesterday in the kayak and had the same luck. To make it even more frustrating, I could SEE them swimming under my kayak as I drifted down the bank, they ranged from fry to 5# fish. A whole new meaning to the term sight fishing.

I got skunked myself at Perris 2 weeks ago. Last year, I was catching easy every time I went during the summer throwing a texas-rig. I agree totally with the opinion that fishing can be better in the afternoon during the summer, but the jet and water skiers are too much. Even the east end isn't a haven when the wakeboard boats buzz the bouy line to impress the fisherman with their awesome skills.

I live close to Perris, and we would hit it on weekdays after work around 4:00 p.m.

My buddy and me hit Perris on Sat 7-27, we launched kinda late around 7:20am, still foggy. We went to the east end, set the trolling motor on 4 and proceeded to run and gun the buzz baits, we only got 3 blow-ups and nothing stuck, followed each one with a bass-assasin(used to be our money bait the last 2 years)and still no going. Gave up the east end around 10 and headed over to the dam, picked up about 8 small bass on the drop-shot fishing about 15 to 25'. We called it a day around 1:30, just too much boat, jet-skier, water-skier traffic. I found about a 3 inch baby bass with a bluegill fry stuck in it's mouth, guess he bit more than he could chew. Pyramid or Piru might be next, I think we are done with Perris until the boat traffic dies down some.
