I have read a few articles about this technique in the last couple of months and was wondering if any Calfishing guys have tried it. If so what types of results have you had and what types of worms are you using?

I took a couple of guys out fishing 2 years ago that were using this method. I took them to Irvine Lake and at the time it was wide open on plastics. They never got bit on that technique on that day. I have never tried it since.

I'm sure it has a time and place, but if it doesn't get bit on a nearly wide open bite...well it has no place in my box.

No, I havent used the jigheads recently made specifically for wacky rigging. But, in times past, Ive been in situations where I starting looking for solutions to the conditions I was fishing. And that led me to rig a senko wacky style with a regular darthead. It worked. I needed a senko to get down faster cause I had suspended spots over 30-40 feet of water. I didnt want to wait all day for the bait to get down, so the jighead was the only thing I came up with. IMO, its absolutely a great technique on crystal clear highland reservoirs when fishing for spotted bass. Shasta and Folsom come to mind. John, I know it will work at Folsom, and its a technique that I working on mastering in such lakes. Let us know how it works for you.

I started using them a few weeks ago. So far I have has very good results in getting bit, getting the hook too stay in is another story. Most hits seem to be reaction strikes as the bait falls quickly. I have gotten some bites by popping the bait off the bottom a few inches and letting it fall back to the bottom. Definately seems to have potential.

My story's the same as Urban's. Haven't used the whacky jigheads, but I've whacky rigged a worm on a dart head. The thin Senko and regular Senko are the only worms I've fished like this. Works pretty well when the fish want something falling a little faster, if you're fishing deep like mentioned before, or if it's super windy.

I used them this weekend up at McClure and caught a couple fish around flooded timber. I used both a Senko and a Zoom Trick Worm. It is technique that I need to play around with some more.

This is my first post here so i will keep it brief. Nice to be here.

I was on a pretty descent Senko bite last month at Cachuma. The wind came up on the outside main lake which caused a current in a cove and that made it difficult for me to fish the Senko on specific targets.

I just so happened to have a jig head on a different rod that i had not used and didnt really think i would resort to so i being the cheap/thrifty guy that i am i pinned on the senko whaky that had already been used not wanting to waste it on a 1/4oz jig head and threw it out.

First cast on a tree in 5' of water. Whammo!

It worked. I think it can be used well under those windy or current conditions. I will have to see as the Senko for me is best used during the spring. I feel that the rate of fall triggers the bite and that particular day it worked due to the current and wind coming around the corner off the outside point.

I will continue to try it now that i have had a little success with it.

I too read a couple of articles in Bass West magazine which was why i decided to try it. It was cool to see a little plan come together all in about a minute as i saw the tree in the near distance as we drifted along.
