#9171, "Evinrude Problems anyone ever have this happen?????"

Went fishin with my girlfriend on 4/7 to Irvine to try out my new deck, trolling motor and fishfinder for the first time, and the motor wasen't gettin any gas. I pumped the bulb for about an hour even pressed a screwdriver into the motor plug to try and bleed it like brakes while pumping the bulb. Sounded like it was backward even though the arrow was in the right direction, I reversed it and same thing. It was a brand new line with a brand new tank that has worked great for 2 trips with no problems. I ended up using my trolling motor to go to the rental dock thinking it was the bulb. They didn't have one so I took it apart myself and checked all the lines spraying myself with gas in the process. Finally at 9A.M. I tied the boat up to the rental dock drove to West Marine they were closed so ended up at Kmart and Walmart $60 later with a new tank and feul line. Still didn't work until I pumped it and stuck the screwdriver in again to prime the line,(11:30A.M) got the fuel started then it ran perfect for the rest of the day. Started first pull every time. Does anyone out there have an evinrude 15hrs outboard that has had this problem? Do I need a special tank for this motor?.....Any help would be appreciated. Don't have the funds to take it in, gotta fix it myself...

Check the air valve on your tank. There should be some type of valve that you can open and close to let air into the tank. It should be open while in use. I've heard you're supposed to close it while the boat is sitting still otherwise fumes will accumulate in the bottom of the boat... Not sure about that one, but don't think I'd flick a cigarrette ash down there to find out...
