#17140, "Gibralter Reservoir SB County"

Does anyone know if it is legal to fish? Located in SB County.
I have fished half way there along the Santa Ynez River. This spring I want to go all the way I believe its about 3 miles. You can fish the river along the way. Has anyone fished the Reservoir? Any info??
thanks

I'm 90% sure its illegal which means there are probably some nice fish in it. Some friends of mine snuck into Jameson Res. and caught some big ol steelhead out of it. Thanks for reply on the reels. I ended up getting a torium 16.

It used to be that you could go downtown in Santa Barbara to some public office and get a permit to fish Gibraltar for like $4. This was 12-15 years ago. I don't know what the deal is now, and there doesn't seem to be much info online. If you really wanted to find out, the SB County Public Works Water Resources Division would probably know. Their phone: (805) 568-3440

When we went up and fished Gibraltar years ago, the water was crystal clear, beautiful, and seemingly devoid of any fish. If I remember right, during the drought in the late 80's early 90's ish time frame the lake dried up completely. I'm sure fish have made their way back in sine then though.

Jameson does have big native trout, and is completely illegal to fish. Friend of Jamon's used to go up there with the caretaker in his boat and they'd get 20" trout with regularity. Beautiful spot to hike and look at, even if you can't fish.

About a 3 weeks ago i went up to jameson with a friend, and on the way back we ran into the care taker of the lake and he had told us that it was ok to fish in the reservoir as long as you stay out of his property. basically, you have to go all the around towards the alder creek sign and make your way to the back of the reservoir and you shound be fine.

Flatliner, if I do go I plan on starting at red rock if I go from there will I avoid the caretakers property? Where about is this Alder Creek sign?

Goletafishn, you got yourself a nice reel there.

well first of all you may want to wait on going because the road may be closed, and when i went the bike ride there was hell, and if your starting from red rock do you plan on taking east camino cielo to jameson? alright when you get to jameson you'll see this sign that says "Private Property do not enter, ECT" from their the road splits, from their you go all the way around to the right, now if your going the right way you'll see the sign, now from their just keep going the way you were and you'll end up at the very backside of the lake.
