I have an old Penn Long Beach Sea Reel #65...
Anyway, I live in Hermosa Beach, CA, and I want to start
fishing the local beaches, piers, coves, etc.
I'd like to set this reel up with a good rod and start fishing.
But, I'd like to know what kind of fishing this reel is
designed for, and if you have some suggestions on the
type of pole I should use.
Thanks,
Marco

Marco, The Penn 65 with large capacity and slow speed is very useful for bottom fishing and trolling. They do not cast very well, although you can do it. Try putting 25# line on it and a 7' rod with a medium action and dropping bait for rockfish. Good luck!
