#3920, "Carp fishing question for all you carp fishermen?"

I never knew so many people actualy tried to catch those things. It dose look fun though. Some of those things get "scary BIG" I fish lake Shasta quite a bit and there are some real monsters in there. I've tried to get them with pan fish jigs. I'm pretty sure they would just straiten the hook if I ever did hook one. How do you guys do it? Lures? bait? hook size? Is it mostly a sight fishing thing? I dont plan on fishing for them any time soon. But come summer I'm gonna give it a try with my 7 year old. I will be sure to post any pictures if we get one. Any help is much appreciated.:-)
Thank you Seth B.

they're a blast. use UL outfits with 2-6lb line and a #10 mosquito hook. just flyline 2 corn kernals or ball up some sandwhich bread on the hook. the carp also like corn, anise, and garlic scents so dip your baits in those too. lot of fun. ive caught some 8#ers on two pound test and it's really fun to fight them for 5-10 minutes. if you need some weight you can try to use a slider or a splitshot but the carp are real finnicky so you might have problems getting bites.

i just caught my p/b carp at an even 20lbs from eisenhower park. used my trout rig with 3lb test, when the bass are not biting its fun fighting these brutes.i use a #16 treble, a small splitshot about 12" up with a cpl kernals of corn. i will fish a worm while my trout rod is set in a holder. i used to not think of carp as a fish worth catching, till some friends took me out 1 day, i could not believe how strong they are. some of my friends have a carp website, they get together once a month and have derby's, but you can get all the info you need for bait and tackle ect..www.socalcarpclub.com
