#3855, "Picking up my new boat tomorrow"

Finally decided on a boat, it's a Tracker Grizzly 1548L. Got a good deal, I was going to get it with a 15hp merc, but they were backordered. So they offered me a 20hp Honda, all electric, at their cost. Getting the trolling motor and floor package.
Have any of you mounted a foot control trolling motor to a boat like this. Theres no plate up front, the deck is like 3" below the rail. How do you do it?

LOL! How to get the trolling motor on, thats funny.

Youve got two options. The first is to peruse all catalogs to see if you can find a mount that works both for your boat and for your trolling motor. That can be tricky.

Or, and this is what I did, go to a good welder with trolling motor in hand. Explain to him EXACTLY what you want and how you want it and have him weld a mounting plate to your boat. You have to leave the motor with him so he gets it just right, including the mounting holes.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

PS: Im completely redoing my boat. I just finished phase one which was to cut the center bench out of my boat. Just 6 more phases to go before I have the boat the way I want it:-)

Your a brave man ! :-) I always wanted to rip out one or two of the benches in my little 12 ft'er...... But I figured I was lucky enough as it was, after beating on my boat as much as I had, and never having even one of those 1500 rivets leak a drop !

I'm interested to see how your boat turns out. Are you going to take photos before, during, and after the re-construction ? I'd like to see them.

Good luck,
Fish

Yeah, ill post some pics, al la before/after.

Its amazing not having that bench; its been that way for close to 9 years. Its a whole different boat.

Now, I need to get a few welds taken care of, then sandblast the entire interior and gunnels, Durabak interior and gunnels, add a new carpeted floor board and I think Im done. May be another 9 years before all that happens!:P

Nice boat ! Congrats. I'm sure your going to love it. Those 20hp Hondas are nice too.... and light enough to take on an off for certain places that don't allow it :-)

As a matter of fact, I'm going to be getting my new "dream boat" soon too :-) http://www.g3boats.com/OutfitterSeries/OutfitterV143T/default.php

Shipping is going to be the difficult part.

Only thing I plan to do with mine is to add a small deck from the front bench forward, which will accomplish 3 things, A) give me a place to put a pedastal (which I might use 'sometimes') B) give me some more storage underneath, and C) effectively eliminate the only bench in the thing in the first place :-)

Peace,
Fish
