#3759, "Night time swimbaits"

Hello everyone, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Jerry. I'm 55 and I've been fishing since I was around 5. I caught my first smallie from the Russian River when I was 9. My personal best largemouth is 9lbs and I would like to increase it by picking the brains of all of you on this site. So I have a question. Do any of you fish swimbaits after dark , I know it seems like a really stupid question but it does seem like a very logical thing to do. I've caught several large fish after dark and an hour or so before daybreak.

Show me the water, I will fish.

Nice to meet you. I've only caught a few fish on swimbaits after dark, so I'm definately not the authority. But from the little I know, it seems that the louder, more obnoxious swimbaits.... like the jointed, wooden types, seem to work the best at night.

Good fishing to you,
Fish Chris

Fish is correct. 9" MS Slammer is hard to beat. I know everyone does something different but I like big noisy topwaters....BIG! :D

I kill it on the Lucky Craft B.U.L.L. searchbait, not really a swimbait classified lure except that it's massive. It's more like a shallow floating crankbait, but it weighs 2 oz.

Well, swimbaits work very well at night, and I dont think it matters which one you use as long as you match your selection to water clarity. In very clear water, you can get away with the more subtle baits that dont make much noise. But in darker water, I go with the louder baits. Really though, I only fish clear water at night, at least I try to. And, I usually use my beat up baits for night fishing since the visual thing isnt near as important, at least in my opinion.

I fish louder baits at night like the 3:16 waking type baits. I have great success on them at night. Look for darker areas in clear water or up tight to docks or the bank.
