Peer pressure works! I will now carry a garbage bag in my friend's boat, and clean up trash while I'm fishing.

Rob I wish everybody was like you! I fish and hunt and it just kills me to see trash out in the mountains. I usualy dont pick up the trash when I hunt because I pack realy lite and need to be quiet but I am costantly neting stuff out of the water as I drive by in the boat. another good idea is to keep a little plastic trash can with a lid in your boat. That way stuff dosent blow out accidentaly.

Dont you hate it when your sitting at a red light and some @#%hole throws trash out their car window? Man that pisses me off!

I agree thoroughly! You don't have to go Gonzo on trash patrol, but you can make a big difference. Even if you've got a small grocery bag on board or on your hip and only throw away what you come across as you're normally fishing without going out of your way, it will make a big difference.

PS: If picking up someone elses trash seems like something that isn't for you, just vow to yourself not to let your trash become litter.

Rob, about a year ago I urged the members to carry trash bags whenever they fish the Santa Ynez River because one invariably finds trash there. You have gone much farther with great recommendations. You made a great contribution. Maybe some of us can embarrass others to not litter if they see us taking a little time out from fishing to clean up litter that we did not make. Also, some kinds of litter are harmful to wildlife.

I really appreciate you stepping up and writing the piece on garbage, excellent writing. I have always picked up trash, mine or others because it is how my Father taught me when I was a kid. It's the little things we all do that add up. I luv the part about cig butts, they annoy the hell outta me. If we all just do a little, combined together it will create alot cleaner lakes and streams for all our kids to enjoy in the future. Thanks Rob, keep up the great work here at the site.
