#2180, "A Governor Who Supports Recreational Fishing"

I haven't received my Western Outdoor News yet but I quickly saw one at Hook Line & Sinker. It seems that one of our "Save Recreational Fishing" organizations (I don't know which one - I wasn't there long enough) has found that Schwarzenegger not only supports recreational fishing but there were quotes about him saying that recreational fishing is vital to the economy of California or something like that. Sorry for the generalness of this post I won't see my Western Outdoor News for a couple of days and wanted to get this out there to my internet friends. It is a fact that Davis was directly behind the rediculous closures at the Channel Islands and if he had his way there would (or will be) reserves scattered up and down the California Coastline.

I was going to vote for him already anyways because I know McClintock can't win and the other alternatives are Davis and Bustamante (I don't think so). I feel a vote for McClintock is a vote for Bustamante which I can't do. I truly feel he may be even worse than Davis.

I don't want to tell you who to vote for but I do recommend doing some research on Arnold's positions on recreational fishing (if you do not get Western Outdoor News). Even though it won't change my vote I will be researching it as well.

I found this:

Recreational angler groups support Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor:

SAN DIEGO - The California Sportfishing Coalition (CSC), a political action and fundraising arm of the fishing industry, has thrown its support in the upcoming recall election to actor and Republican candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger, who holds a large lead among all canidates, according to most polls.
Bob Fletcher, president of the Sportfishing Association of California and CSC Director said in a press release issued Monday: "Between increased fees and disappearing programs, recreational anglers have suffered for too long under the Davis Administration; it is clearly time for a change. We need a governor who understands California anglers and Arnold Schwarzenegger is that person."
CSC Director Tom Raftican added, "Arnold Schwarzenegger has promised to audit state government and that audit should start with the Department of Fish and Game. California anglers have been pouring tens of millions of dollars a year into the Department, we have not got our money's workth and its about itme we saw how it has been spent."
Said Schwarzenegger, "Recreational angling is part of the quality of life for millions of Californians. I look forward to working closely with California anglers to protect our environment and maintain fishing access from Crescent City to San Diego."

There was also a flyer inserted in the paper that read:

CSC URGES ALL ANGLERS TO VOTE SCHWARZENEGGER FOR GOVERNOR!!

Gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger believes that, "A healthy sportfishing industry is in the best economic interest of California."

Arnold went on to say that, "Recreational angling has traditionally been part of the quality of life for millions of Californians, and as long as scientific measurements of fish populations show surpluses available for harvest, California anglers should be allowed the opportunity to beout on the water angling for those fish!"

Whether Arnold's fishing position is accurate or not, I couldn't handle another Demo in office (like Cruise Bustamove). As a generality, any Republican is gonna be more conservative and pro-fishing/hunting than any democrat.

The problem is, that is too GENERAL of a statement, your comment might not be wrong, because I'm no fan of Davis either. So lets say that Davis is anti-fishing, so all Democrats are like that. Does that mean that Arnold will be anti environment and will let big polluters regulate themselves, just because that is what George Bush does? Should we assume that all Republicans are like this? Should we
call of them bigots because Rush Limbaugh and Trent Lott of bigots? The blanket statements are bad news. There are bad apples in both parties. I didn't even know that Arnold likes to fish! I've never heard this before! I'm not a big fan of any of these guys, but I would always support Arnold IF he rolls back the car tax.

Terry, I know it was a very general statement. For what I personally believe and endorse, I will take a republican over a democrat anyday. I did not get into the particular items here as this thread would really get out of hand. Is either party perfect? No way! I guess it's choose the lesser of two evils--that is, one must vote for who has the best balance of what he/she believes in.
