#1371, "Laid-off, Again"
|
This makes 3 times in as many years. What am I doing wrong? First it was a large company bought up by a Conglomerate who shutdown the entire branch-plant. Then a medium sized company bought by a larger one and told to cut 20% of the workforce (obviously it was done by seniority). Now a SMALL company who didn't get the "Big Bid". Are there any companies who need experienced, hard working, drafters and will be around for 10+ years? I want a position that I can depend on as much as they can depend on me. Sorry to rant and rave, but this is getting to be a bad record, played over and over. Anyways, if anyone has any leads on Drafting positions open in the greater San Jose area (specifically Morgan Hill), let me know. Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately it seems to be the direction everyone is headed. Hire & lay off at the drop of a quarterly report. As long as the suits get their 6 figure bonuses & 7 figure parachutes when the company goes TU they don't really care.
Hell, I've been working for temp agencies for the past 5 years (with a brief stint as a regular. Note I didn't say "permanent." :) ) I do my job, but really. Why would I do more than the minimum necessary? I won't be here in a year anyway. And the company can't figure why nobody's motivated.
It's like the guy in "Office Space" said. "It's not that I'm lazy, Bob. I just don't care."
Look at different jobs as "resume enhancement." Nothing unusal these days about moveing around a lot.
Good luck, Fishslayer

Wade,
I don't know how much help this will be, but I work for Teichert Construction in Sac. We are always looking for good draftsman to do take off work and Cad drawings of jobs. The company has been around since 1887 or something like that. We are privately owned and are not going anywhere. If you are thinking of relocating it may be something to think about. If it is something you are interested in, let me know and I will give you my email address to send a resume to. Good luck!!!
