#746, "Cardiff Vs Corsair ?"

I have a Cardiff 300 and I want to move to a 400. I'm not ready to spend the duckets for a Calcutta so it's all about a Cardiff or Corsair.

Does anyone have imput on the differnces between these two ? I like the Cardiff, but what is the diff between the two or is the Cardiff a better reel all around...

thanks in advance

Leroy

Pleasse dont think I am bashing Shimano. I am not. I own some of their reels and I like them. With that being said I think the corsair is the worst reel ever made. Everybody I know that has owned one hates them. I went through 3 of them in about a month. If I had to pick between the 2 I would pick the Cardiff. You should also consider the IDX400 Okuma Induron. I thinks its the best reel for the money.

I would have to agree that the Corsair reel sucks. I have never bashed a Shimano product before but those reels blow. I ended up giving away 4 of them that I had.

I'm a loyal shimano fan but I have to agree, the Corsair sucks a$$.. The new Cardiff's are great and comparable to my Calcutta's.

The Corsair doesn't exist anymore unless it's older stock in store. Its place in the line up was taken by the Corvalus-- a completely different design. Between the Corvalus and Cardiff there's a diff in the bearing count, type of bearings, and handle paddle styles--about $30. I have both in the 300 size and think they are good reels for the price. I would compare them both in a store then decide.

I own a Cardiff 301 and I like it...I also own a Calcutta TE 401 and I like everything about it, except the amount I had to pay for it.
A year ago, I purchased an '05 Okuma IDX 400. I had a series of problems with that reel, but about a month ago (with the help of John Lake) Okuma sent me a new '06 version the IDX 400. I can't say enough good things about it.
I was throwing Huds with it last weekend and made a couple comments about how much I liked it. A buddy of mine (who spent a year busting my balls about the '05 model that I couldn't get to function) decided to give it a try. After 100+ casts he looked at me and said, "Where do I get one of these?"
I'm with Matt...you should consider the Okuma IDX 400.

Good reel for the price. You won't regret it. You even got a great deal on it.
