#3022, "Ghetto Biosonix"

Ok, props to Biosonix, they invented something totally cool and the consensus is that it works. No, I don't own one but I sure would like to.

The thing that kills me is... why the giant box? Why not:

2 gig Ipod Nano - $150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855101430

Underwater speaker - $40
http://cgi.ebay.com/DARAVOC-Underwater-Speaker_W0QQitemZ5852375633QQihZ008QQcategoryZ14995QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Waterproof case for the IPOD - $20

Rig it up right along side your graph on the bow in a holder of some sort. Run the cable down your trolling motor shaft. Viola, $210 Biosonix. You could go way cheaper on the MP3 player component too. I imagine 512mb would be plenty of space for fish sounds.

I'm just saying.

I don't know about getting the sounds off the biosonix but if their underwater speaker isn't hard wired to the box, you might be able to plug in a recording line in to the biosonix box instead of the speaker and record the sounds to your computer. I don't know about all that because I haven't seen the unit in person to look at how it's all hooked up.

Getting you own sounds would be very difficult. You'd need a hydrophone and some great conditions to get audio of fish actually feeding. I don't know how the Biosonix people got their sounds but I have to think it was in a farm pond or some environment where you could get close enough to the fish to record them on a nice calm day where other noises wouldn't screw up the recordings.

I don't know much about recording underwater sounds but you can buy a hydrophone, which is an underwater microphone, for $200-$300. I assume they have a standard line out that you could plug into a camcorder, laptop, or into an mp3 player directly. Then just use whatever device you have it hooked up to to record the sounds to wav or mp3 files. Copy from there to your ipod and you're good to go.

I'm not about to go do it, I'm just pointing out that the device doesn't have to be so big.

I think all you need to record is the trout plant truck reverse beeper. That should get the fish fired up! LOL!!

Is there a consensus that it works? I would think about getting one if it truly worked, but it is pretty pricey. Has anyone one here used it and had success? I apologize if I missed a past post where it was discussed, but I sure would like to hear from some of you guys if it has worked for you.

Just reading this post I know my response is a little late but for those still interested in buying I highly recommend picking up your Nano from Newegg which is the first link on the list. They have the highest customer satisfaction rating in the business which is a direct result of their dedication to service and keeping their customers happy. Just thought I would chime in with that.

Thanks,
JErryG
