#2942, "P-Line Problems?"

Wazup everybody! Wanted to ask a question about P-Line. I've fished the stuff (CXX Green to be exact) for about a year and have been impressed with knot strength and abrasion resisant. I've put the line through hell as far as cover goes and it holds up well. But recently I noticed a lot of memory in the higher test sizes, even in 12 lb I use! The line seems to istantly coil up on the spool. I use the 6 pound Fluoroclear for my dropshot and jigworm rod with no problems. The heavier P-Line just seems to backlash easier on me, and no other lines before have shown this problem? I liked Maxima Ultragreen but in the durability department even after retying frequently it didn't last very long. I have trilene XL in 12 clear right now on but would like to find other lines. Any lines similiar to P-Line in abrasion resistance? Thanks.

The best I can offer is that in P-Line when you go to the CXX Xtra Strong you are looking for a super-tough line, not a memory-free line. Its TOUGH but you will need to change it out sometimes or you will have those mentioned problems. Now, if you just need strength, not necessarily the abrasion resistance check out the CX Premium. That line is stronger than the X-tra Strong but is a much thinner diameter. (I dropshot 10 lb and its the same as Maxima 6 lb and is even the same color). In addition to its low diameter strength the Premium is also the lowest memory line I've ever used! I was a huge Maxima fan until I started using CX Premium... now I won't go back.

I'll try the CX Premium. I don't think the time between line changes was the problem though. My local lake is basically a mini- Clear Lake, lots of tulllies and wood, so I change my mono at most every 4 or 5 trip., which for me is about every 2-3 weeks. I also went the economic way and bought the 600 yard spool, so that could've been the problem too. Thanks, any more suggestions out there? :)

If the CXX sits in the car on a hot day, after that you will have serious memory problems. The same thing goes for most abrasion resistant lines. Stretching for a few minute can help but it's just a band-aid on a deep wound.
Tight lines,
Wade

Try using reel saver spray you can buy it through bass pro shops. I use it on all my lines and it can help the memory issue and help keep the line from drying out. I to love using the p-fluoroclear great stuff.
