Probably best to go w/ a fixer uper unless you can find a complete one for cheap. I don't know if your planning on using a trolling motor only? About how much money do you have to spend? Just keep checking the classifieds on here and western bass you will find one sooner or later.

I'm on my second Basshunter UBHII http://www.basshunter.com/ The grey one in the pic. Absolutely the best small water boat there is IMO. At 10'x4', it lays flat in the bed of my F150 pickup so no trailer is necessary. It's carpeted, two swivelling, padded seats that can be placed anywhere with room for two. It's flat so it's stable and will not turn over. I use a MinnKota MAXXUM 30# thrust motor mounted on the bow. I've been using them for almost 7 years now and would have nothing else. It weighs 125 lbs and I move it by myself as 98% of the time, I'm alone.

Have you thought about a kickboat? Might be the best option since you don't have a truck. These will break down and you can inflate it with a hand or foot pump when you get to the lake. You can also attach a trolling motor.
Take a look at a picture of one:

Sorry if you've already considered this and want to stay dryer!

i guess i've really never considered one because the places i fish have huge snapping turtles in them and are extremely agressive,

its also very cold lots of times and the float tube would prbably freeze my butt off

i'm reallyeating at my self about what to get and how the heck to move it

Ben,
A float tube is a good idea you dont really have enought for a good boat and counld not move it either. If you have a float tube and some good waders you will be fine. A tube is great as long as your not around a bunch of boat then it tends to suck. I have never been attacked by turtles but have been bumped by a beaver kinda scary.

How were you planning on getting a boat around without a truck? I have a Pelican 11'4" with an old rental 8hp Mercury and a Motor Guide 54# bow mount. Cool little boat for what I do locally, 2 seats, a livewell and lights. I paid $500 used with a trailer and bow mount, you just need to look. I found some 10' boats on e-bay for like $200 too.

Good Luck!

Ben,
Check out the Floattube and Kickboat forum section of this site here:
http://www.calfishing.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=6

These are a couple of Northern California bass clubs that fish from float tubes and kickboats. Lots of good info here and the guys are willing to help you out. Make sure you check out the photos by clicking the "photo" tab on the top header.
Ken

You might want to go over to www.porta-bote.com and take a look at the 10'or 12' they sell. There's also a Yahoo porta-bote forum with a lot of pictures of how guys modified their "botes" to include attachments for fishfinders, rod holders, etc. The 12' bote only weighs 69 lbs, takes up to a 6 hp Nissan 4 stroke, and folds down to only 4 inches flat so you can tie it to the top of your car. There may be someone selling their used bote on their forum if you want to save a few bucks.
