They look and feel nice. A reel repair tech friend o' mine witnessed a number of them seizing up on a couple Royal Polaris trips last year. I've also heard they're a bit more prone to corrosion...

My buddy just bought an Avet 2 speed, I think an EX? It looks sick and feels really nice- can't wait to see it in action, the price is not bad at all- definetly be up for getting one

the great thing about avet is that they arent afraid to improve their products... im pretty sure those are the older models that the people had. the new ones are completely corrosion resistant and they are made to handle huge fish. just see some of the pics on their website, www.avetreels.com and their customer service is just as good, if not better then shimano's. Plus, they are a local company for most of us :)

Well I guess the way to compare models is to start with line capacity and construction materials and price. So compare thr Torium vs JX or LX models, or Calcutta vs MXJ or MXL. If you check out AVET severial of there models offer 2 speed reels ie: JX/LX,MXJ/MXL,EX/EXL and on. also there JX/LX models offer ratio's from 4 to 1, 6 to 1 and 8 to 1.

I think these are fair reels to compare. let me knoe what you think.

avet SX and the MXs are the reels of choice for the surfishers on the eawst coast. they get extraordinarily long casts with magged SXs, long rods and pendulum casts...
