After looking at one of my 4" Castiac softbaits today, I thought of what it had done for my bass fishing. Not much, I decided, as it doesn't have much action at slow speeds. But then I thought of some of the big brown trout on lakes like Bridgeport and Twin Lake in the same area, what a great bait it would be for trolling deep in the water column in the 4 & 6" sizes. Big browns love eat little bows, but I know that fishing swimbaits for trout is pretty much rarely dicussed topic. Anybody ever tried this before?

Ive never tried it but just yesterday was up at Hell Hole and French Meadows doing some work. My co-worker and I decided that next time we go, we are gonna get there early and throw a Huddleston to see if we can get a big brown. I see no reason why we wouldnt be able to get one. I know it will work, just have to figure out where they are holding. Once tht sun comes up we plan to troll a little.

Ill let ya know what happens.

Guys have been trolling the AC Plug for trophy browns for years. Check out Allens site and look at the photo gallery. Swimbaits will catch almost any type of fish in the right conditions. I caught about 2 lb bluegill throwing a 7" slammer. His mouth wasn't even big enough for the whole treble hook :+

Saw this last year, unfortunately it was after my trip to Lake Tahoe where my son and I went out on a traditional Lake Trout outing with Tahoe Sportfishing (we did limit out at least). I would rather of done the trophy hunting for browns. Besides that, a lead DFG Bioligist told us at a seminar there's largemouth up near one or some of the creeks coming into Lake Tahoe. Next time I go trout fishing in the High Sierras I'm taking swimbaits.
